So I need to reformat my parent's computer, because it's just disgustingly slow and bogged down and full of crap. I was wondering the easiest way to make sure I can import all of their old e-mail, favorites, docs, etc into their new profiles? I always just kind of muddle through it every time I reformat...

This is XP (SP3) btw.

If they're using firefox, exporting and importing the favorites are easy. If they are your average naive computer user, their e-mail address book is stored on the hotmail servers or whatever anyway.

if the favorites are in IE, they are in the favorites folder for the user profile (c:\documents and settings\blah\Favorites)

if the email is outlook express you can export the address book and such from there

on computers that are full of crap they are usually using ie6+oe so that's what i'm going to assume they have :P
gbk is 50 probably

Yeah except I only have one computer. I'll just back up the drive and hope for the best.

You just use it to "transfer" to itself (i.e. source and destination computers are the same)

Even if you don't have a new computer, use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to create a backup copy of your files and settings, which can then be used to restore your detailed configuration data, if you ever need to reinstall Windows XP.
