The dude wasn't happy with my window, apparently. Said something about how strong he was after the fact.

A good dose of oleoresin capsicum turned him right around, though..

Yep. He kicked the window out on the way to the PD - I hadn't been driving for much more than a few seconds...had barely pulled out of the parking lot in which he was arrested. Went back to the parking lot and he ended up sorta standing up through the window (somehow my hat ended up on the back seat...he decided to bite it and then sit on it before this..didn't exactly thrill me)...he wouldn't get back in the car and was screaming at us. We (rather, my partner) ended up spraying him and then we pulled him out and down to the ground.

Yay for quiet Sunday nights. Not. :P

He coked out on something?
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

When auto glass breaks, it doesn't break like ordinary glass -- look at the size of the pieces in the back seat. It shatters into tiny pieces...lots of glass went outside, some went in the back seat..there's some in the front seat..

I thought auto glass had some sort of plastic sandwiched that made it totally NOT shatter into tiny pieces but stick together...

Maybe that's just windshields though.

What's with that back seat? Cop cars here have plastic back seats that are so cramped up back there that it doesnt allow much movement.

He's from Nowheresville, New Hampshire. This is probably the most action his town has seen in a long time.

Not that one.

If you don't count the DUI crash the day before..the murder/suicide not too long ago, and the pursuit every now and again, yeah, pretty much.

If it makes you feel any better, on friday night we had a huge party planned for a friends graduation, I had just finished a giant burger and hot dog, on my way to the fridge for alcohol and we got paged out to a structure fire. Four hours later I didn't want food, or alcohol... just water and sleep.

JLee, as a vehicle, how do you like the Ford Crown Vic platform? It seems to be a proven design but I've never driven it or known somebody with one long enough to comment on the reliability.

I'm in the mood for something big for my next car and I was looking at the Crown Vic (NOT an ex cop car), Grand Marquis, or Lincoln Town Car, all of which share the same platform.

Not many cars still come with 6 passenger seating/front bench seat, V8 RWD, or classic body on frame structure, all of which are appealing to me.
2009-05-11, 10:17 AM #30
Wait, people that aren't senior citizens actually like Crown Vics, Town Cars, etc.?
2009-05-11, 10:23 AM #31
Had a black Grand Marquis for a little while. Really great car. Got decent gas mileage if you drove it normally. Excellent ride, and handling wasn't bad for being a small boat. Car definitely got out of its own way with the V8. Only downside was that it was awful in the winter. Nothing sandbags couldn't help though.

Side and rear windows of vehicles use Tempered glass. Tempered glass is easily identifiable because there is always a small symbol and writing in one of the corners of the glass. The way Tempered glass works is that it's designed to explode into millions of tiny round pieces that are mostly harmless. Which is why it's called a safetly glass.

The windshield is made out of what's called Laminated glass. All laminated glass is is two pieces of tempered glass with a thin laminate film in between them. The purpose is so that when the glass is shattered, instead of exploding outward, the film helps keep it all in one piece but still mostly harmless.

Most states require door glass and side lights (windows next to doors) to be a safety glass.

Another type of safety glass is lexan. If you've ever seen the video of a guy throwing a brick at a convenient store window only for it to bounce off the glass and hit him in the chest...that's lexan.

Bullet Resistant glass (no such thing as Bullet Proof)? 1 layer of Lexan laminated to 1 thick layer of 1" (or stronger) plate glass, laminated to another layer of Lexan.

...I used to work for a glass company back in the day.

You give your arrestees seat belts?

I don't remember a seatbelt in my ride ... but then again I don't remember much of that night ...

I do remember the officer freaking out because I was moving around a lot (hence no seat belt)
I was trying to get the pick out of my pocket to get out of the handcuffs ...
2009-05-11, 2:04 PM #36
That's crazy how he broke the window like that. I thought the windows of cop cars were, you know, designed to prevent these kinds of things from happening...
2009-05-11, 2:09 PM #37
he was probably on pcp

New Hampshire is only state that doesn't have seat belt laws.

Minor correction- we do have seat belt laws for child restraints (under 18).

When transporting someone, we don't always want to stick our head right in there with the guy..sometimes they spit and stuff. Nasty.
