Lyme Disease?
2009-05-12, 10:47 AM #1
Bah! Mosquitos! I think one gave me lyme disease, but not sure yet. The last few days I had to do some stuff outside in the evening hours and have been mauled by unseasonably high quantities of mosquitos, not to mention their larger than usual size this year...

Anyway, I noticed a wierd ring on my arm today, at first I thought it was ringworm which I have had many times in the past, and am very allergic to (usually if i get one spot, i end up with many) but this is not a ringworm. I searched around some online, and it looks somewhat similar to the lyme disease spots, only smaller. I had already planned a Dr. visit next week for some other stuff I need, but this may bump it up.

Anyway, I'm bored and figured I would see if anyone here has had a bout with this before. I'm not even sure it's what it is, I'll have to keep an eye on the ring and see if it grows or not. Apparently LD spots grow pretty fast.

Perhaps the different mosquito species you have can carry Lyme disease but in the UK you pretty much only get it from tick bites. Have you been walking through brush or grassland where you have deer or sheep?

Well if I have it, I've only had it a few days. How long until that crap starts?

I live in Texas, so deer and sheep are around. I know ticks are primary causes, but mosquitos have been linked as well. I haven't seen mosquitos this bad in my area for the entire length of my 21 years here.

Haha relax I'm not one of those people who thinks they have everything. I just noticed a really odd looking red ring on my arm that I know (from experience) isnt a ringworm. *shrugs* I guess I'll find out.

You should get it checked out, because Lyme disease can seriously ruin your life.

Lyme Disease comes from deer ticks, not mosquitos.

The early sign is a bullseye pattern rash.

Well i have a damn near perfect red circle on my arm, some of the ring is thicker than the other, and its about the size of a penny. It's been there at least 6 hours now, and its definitely not a ringworm.

Haha.. it's about time you bastards got a taste of the mosquito problem we have up here. That's pretty awesome, because the last couple years have been pretty mild in mosquito density for us.

I'd post about it on the internet more. That should fix it right up.

I haven't heard about mosquitos being carriers of Lyme Disease. Am I missing some big fact here?

From what I've read they CAN carry it. Anyway, Obi, I only posted because I was bored at work... :hurr:

Aside from that, the ring is still there some 10 hours later, hasnt changed... who knows. I kinda hope its still there when I goto the doc, maybe I can get something named after me!

no

2009-05-12, 11:59 PM #22
Is it a ring, as in a non-red center, or just a large raised area? Mosquito bites can be surprisingly large if irritated, and spider bites can look like that too. If it's actually a ring, though, you should probably get it looked at, as I can't think of any innocuous explanations.
