Opera 10 a

just installed opera 10 Alpha. I have to say its hands down the best browser I have ever used.

If you've poo pooed opera in the past, I would advise you try this browser out.

Everything is lightning fast. Only negative I have noticed thus far is the spell check is a little buggy, but again this is only alpha.

NOTE: New myspace and opera 9-10, do not get long whatsoever.

I could never stand Opera on a PC. It's fine for mobile, I applaud their efforts in that area, but their browser brings neither speed nor firefox-level adaptability. Plus, with it's ~1% marketshare, it rarely is tested against on websites.

I could never change from opera, i'm just to used to using tabs so much. I barely ever have less then 30 or 40 open. Say its stupid or wasteful if you must, but it's just how i roll.

Also all my saved sessions are here.

Tibby: Err every other browser out there has had tabs for forever now. I do the exact same thing as you except in Firefox.

I've always considered IE, Firefox, and Opera to be the "big 3" even though Opera clearly isn't... I guess it's just because it used to be that Firefox (Firebird) and Opera were the two non-IE browsers that I heard people talking about the most. Those three have always been the ones that I have on my computer and that I test sites with (Chrome as well).

I really like Opera, just works well. Themes, modules etc are all nice and easy to install too. Tried a couple of browsers out a while ago and just stuck with it since. It's not too great on some of the AJAX stuff but 99% of the time it's fine.

Firefox is ok but I felt like it's a bit of a CPU hog, especially when you "jack it up" like everyone recommends usually. I was getting my CPU hitting stupidly high figures just to load a bunch of HTML. Needless to say my experiences with firefox weren't great.

But can it read my old opera saved sessions?
Infact, that's why im still on 9.5.

As of right now, the new opera is a let down for me...

Currently I have Firefox 3.5 Beta 4, Safari 4 Beta 528.17, Google Chrome 2.0.181.1, and Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702.

I've tested a few sites, CNN, MSNBC, Massassi, and others...

So far the new Opera is the slowest. I haven't used opera in a while, and thought I'd give this one a shot.

In terms of speed though, I must say that, at least for the sites I regularly visit, IE 8 is up there with Chrome and Safari at the top. Safari appears to be the best, as the above chart indicates; with chrome and IE not far behind...

Yes, yes, blasphemy, down with M$ and IE and all that; but I'm actually a fan of IE, and IE 8. The alternative browsers just haven't yet caught my full attention; but of them all, Chrome has been my... 'weapon of choice,' if you will.

Don't know what your talking about with firefox being fast, it runs like **** on my box, and when you scroll on graphic intense pages (ie band myspaces) its choppy as hell. Speed defenitely flys, I can even youtube a video for any doubting thomas'.

BTW I thought Safari on windows was a secret recipe for fail?

EDIT: Posting this from Safari beta.. definitely is NOT as fast as that chart seems to think it is. Some things are actually slower then Opera 10A. Actually glitched really bad while editing this.

I just don't understand how much faster you can possibly want your web browsing to be. My web pages always load within the second I click them. Not being able to "browse" a page quickly doesn't feel like an issue.

Also @ graph: Is it really a fair test? Are all the browsers using the same memory/CPU limits? I'm guessing it's unlikely and that some are pulling more resources than others.

I think most browsers are probably ok though, just a matter of picking your favourite one :P

Here's more info on that graph: http://www.betanews.com/article/Google-Chrome-2-is-20-faster-than-Chrome-1-in-physical-speed-tests/1243046066

Also, I guess they are taking more into account than just speed.

I guess if my box was more up to spec safari might have ran nicer, but some things were just super glitchy with it. And I definitely didn't like how it was "always on top" and there was no option to make it cascade behind everything else, so the startbar would not pop up in front of the browser when I moved my cursor to the bottom of my screen. Biggie for me because I multitask like crazy when I browse.

I used to be a die-hard opera fanatic. I don't know what you guys are thinking of when you are saying certain browsers are "faster" than others, but for me opera opens more quickly and the interface is a lot snappier as well. In addition, I can have more pages open at once than on Firefox before things start to get choppy. Firefox does this thing where when you are loading/executing a large javascript (like when gmail.com loads) it locks up the whole app for a few seconds. I get that all the time. Opera never did that for me.

That said, I got tired of opera because their ad blocking sucks. They have user JS scripts you can download that help a lot but adblock plus on firefox is so much better.

The other thing I like is that since firefox is open source, the ubuntu repositories have it and so it just gets updated as my other software gets updated. With opera I have to go download and manually install each new version which is a minor headache.
