It's in Russian. This isn't really the active members training though, it's the training camp / test for the guys who want to become part of Spetznaz's "Vityaz" group (the guys in red berets).

Hey Koobie what do you think about Russian conscriptees dying in military training due to the high amount of systematic abuse?

I like the breakdancing at 1:20 or so. Really seems like it would come in handy in a combat situation.

Vietman, like Chechnya, was a guerilla war.

How the heck do you fight an enemy that does not rely on regular forces but takes potshots from you from under the bushes and runs away, has no concern for civilian casualties, and is absolutely determined not to back down no matter what?

Nuke their entire country (or, in Chechnya's case, region)?

I'm not trying to justify war, I think both the States and Russia would've been much better off if Vietnam and Chechnya never happened, but hey. The world happens.



90% of the mentioned abuse isn't done by officers but by second year conscripts. However there's a gradual transition from a conscript to a contract system (akin to the one you guys have) going on now that should hopefully help the army in that regard.

May still take quite a few years before the army goes full-contract, if ever, though.

And the fact that some people are *******s does not demean the effectiveness of Special Forces, the guys who went to serve in the army because they actually wanted to serve (as opposed to the ones who got dragged by force).

I'm actually Finnish, we have a conscript system.

Not to derail, but you know me, I can't let this stand. It took a few years for us to figure it out, but after we recovered from the complete lack of post-invasion planning in Iraq, we used the lessons we learned in Vietnam to help us in Iraq. We are not being beaten by them there. Quite the opposite, I think since the troop surge we're doing as well as anyone could hope for considering the horrible situation we put ourselves in.

Anyway, continue with the thread about guys doing flips for no reason!

TBH all that flipping is utterly useless in combat. Some of it is mildly impressive.

Iraqs going alot better than it was after the invasion. Also we're doing a better job with Afghanistan (issues with the Taliban sadly, but their a tough lot to get rid of).

It's all pretty stupid to me. Not impressed. If they could shoot and hit a target while flipping, THAT would be something new and cool.

Although sometimes it seems more like a Korea type of standstill, but to say we were "beaten" is BS. Their casualty list towers over ours. And the Iraqi regime under Saddam pretty much said "ok **** this" after like what, a week of invasion?

The UK special forces selection is I believe the most badass military training in the world, and is probably more effective training than what the Spetsnaz go through (if not greater in difficulty as well). I say this because the Russian SOF has had numerous spectacular failures of counterterrorism throughout the 90s and today, and is plagued with corruption. ****ing brutish apes, the Russians are.

Says the bloke from a country that hasn't won a war since the 40s despite getting into a new one once a decade.
