Internet compatability issue ..

So I'm trying to use this online application form.

I'm running W7.
FF and Chrome both tell me to go use IE.
But it doesn't SUPPORT THE DAMN IE8.

I can't seem to downgrade either, because trying to install 6 or 7 in compatible with my computer.

My roommates are not around so anyone got a quick help for this?

Safari comes with native support for switching user agents, you could give that a go. There are also extensions for Firefox that do the same.

Have you tried compatibility view?

Works on the old crappy sites I have to use at work.

What Detty means by User Agent Switcher is that Firefox / Opera / etc have a menu where you can tell it to identify itself as something else so that it will tell the server that it's IE7, thereby "tricking" the browser check.

That won't help if the form uses some IE-only technologies like ActiveX though.

I agree with libja -- give compatability mode in IE8 a try.

Try Detty's idea first. User Agent Switcher for Firefox is my extension, you can also change it in about:config (save the old one). In Chrome you pass a command line argument I have forgotten. IE7Pro for IE lets you change the User Agent in IE (the status bar icon doesn't seem to work in IE8 but you can still use the Tools menu to access IE7Pro). And of course Opera actually has the option built in.

If you NEED IE6/7, use Internet Explorer Collection
