Massassi's upkeep.

I know the JK is no longer popular, so there are a lot of aspect that are going to fall apart here at Massassi, but I have noticed a whole lot of dead links recently. Particularly in the files section. I remember last time I tried to get Patch Commander.. about 3 years ago, it was a dead link here at Massassi and I had to go find it somewhere else.

Well i just tried to get it again 5 minutes ago, and it is still a dead link.

As i said, i dont expect everything to work, but you think it would have been fixed/updated or removed by now.

I think the lack of a working Patch Commander link is a dubious ploy to get people to migrate to a Hub-Approved program

About a month ago I found a working copy on the original PC site

To be honest, I'm probably just going to remove most of the file section, if not all of it. I'd have to really look, but most of it is rather inconsequential anymore (like Jedi Outcast demos, really?). Anything really needed on there is already on JKHub.

You mean the old JK/JO/JA levels and mods as well?

Hell no, I mean specifically the files section.

Speaking of upkeep, can't we do anything about the seeming increase of spambots that somehow register?

I tried to download patch commander too. And for some reason, the version on JKhub doesn't work on my system. No clue why.
DO NOT WANT.

Is it pathetic that after all of these years I still have the URL to Patch Commander memorized?

http://www.jediknight.net/commander/
? :)

They're registered by humans, so unless you know of a way of filtering humans, no. We already have reCAPTCHA, which is a very strong CAPTCHA system, and I've also used standard question systems, which also didn't help.

A way has been found a long time ago: registration fees. :v:
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Not exactly a difficult URL to remember. I'd be more impressed if you remember query string params.

You're positive that these are done by humans?
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Well considering some of the questions were like:

"What is the fourth word in this question?"

and "bots" were still registering, yes, I'm pretty sure. :suicide:

I just didn't think Massassi was popular enough to have so many humans register for spamming. I mean, for bigger communities I could understand but geez, if that really is the case, then that just sucks. :(

I wonder if our latest member is a spambot of SfdfgdfgGold re-registered for some reason.

Do spambots join user groups? -_-
nope.

Are you allowed to enter your own database of questions?

"what colour is kyle katarn's shirt?"

Yes, but I don't want to ask questions that new registrants wouldn't know. :carl:

Have a user group and a post on the forum that you have to join the group before you can post. A human will see "READ THIS" where the person who signed the bot up leaves it to spam.

JKHub is pretty disorganized (Sorry Z :saddowns:), hopefully this news will motivate them to cleanup the site a bit.
