Apparently the army is building creepy robot spiders to carry their rut sacks

:psylon:
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

Some of the footage has been around for a few years now. Are they just now deploying it?

i'm suprised at the noise it makes... I thought it would sound more like the engine of a car then a weed whacker...

but it is pretty awesome technology...

Zandari... please tell me you don't know the people that made that.... :-P

Seems useless. Are we supposed to be impressed that it can regain its balance after slipping on ice? How about something that will go AROUND the ice?

Also, it's ridiculously loud. I've having trouble imagining a situation where this would be useful.

Haha 'robot'.

At least they finally realized that animals already got the design of legs right.

Ditto on the loud and useless thing. Also, I would bet $10,000 that I could completely incapacitate that thing with minimal trouble with at least 5 things that are within my reach from this chair, none of which are explosives and only three of which are guns!

Edit: It is really awesome though, I love it. Anyone else amused that robotics has progressed so far that humankind has used its vast collective intellect and engineering skill to create a robot that stumbles around like a drunk retard?

I want a quieter, faster version of that to replace my wheelchair.

I think some of you are missing the point. This is really a robot for research and development purposes. It isn't directly meant to be a product, not yet.

Is the deployment more part of an agreement to let the robot have a functional test run to see what needs to be worked on next than an actual product test? I can see that making sense. Letting other people use it in the real world will be a lot more informative than a bunch of scientists making it poke around a small stack of cinder blocks.

Like I said, it really is very cool.
