NewEgg.com

Use them. I ordered from them and everything arrived a day early. And I think everything they sell is for a decent price. Most of it fluctuates a dollar or two daily.

GO to NewEgg, type in what you want, and see what price it tells you.

A couple of weeks ago I got an Athlon XP 3200+, Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, case, a gigabyte of RAM, X800 Pro and two 80 GB SATA drives for around $1100 US, at a local computer store.

Order what you(or him) can from SVC.com. Many of their components are expensive, but fans and other stuff are dirt cheap. They have nice round IDE cables for $2.10, I have several and they're quite nice. Those are the dual device 18" cables, which is standard size. They have round floppy cables for $1.10, what a deal! They have them in 10", single device, so no more annoyingly long floppy cables. All this in many sizes and colors. They even have round SCSI cables for cheap.

Edit: And wait, 400-600? That's a little tight for what you picked out...Well maybe not but..

The store didn't have any 6800s, or any X800 XTs or anything like that. This computer was entirely an impulse buy and I'll probably build a 64-bit rig in a couple of months.

And yeah, what Emon said: I doubt you can build that system for $400-600

THAT system'll cost you upwards of anywhere around 1000 bucks. Maybe less, maybe more, depending. But a good system will cost you 600 bucks. That is, however, a nice computer. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

I bought mine (similar specs to the one you're looking at) from cyberpowersystems.com. Might not be the best deal out there, but the PC I got from them runs great.
