I have an 8gb usb drive that I was transfering files to, when the power decided to go out. Now said files that were being sent got corrupted, and I can't delete the corrupted copies on the usb (they have random characters of all types in them). Whenever I try to delete one of those files I get the follow error:

Cannot delete file: Unable to read disk or file of origin.

I know I should just backup the uncorrupted files and format the thing, but I was wondering if there was another way to do it.

I dunno, formatting works well. There was a tool I used to use for similar problems on my PC called "Remove on Reboot" it always worked like a charm but that wouldn't help you here.

Great... my FX5200 just failed as well. The power out really damaged the computer. Now I'm afraid the motherboard might go as well. Now only the laptop can function.

Run chkdsk /f on the drive.
