Left 4 Dead 2. Not sure if this had been posted already or not, but hey.

I hope it doesn't suck.

Some of the extras would be plain awesome for just Left 4 Dead, but so far the characters they've shown off look a little trite and uninteresting, not to mention fat and garish in once case.

I think more zombie games need dissonance like daytime campaigns, though. You'd think the zombies killed the sun, or something.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

R2 has a Japanese counterpart?

... Oh! Man, I wish I had a better computer so I could even play the first Left 4 Dead

I don't think it's going to be a big deal, in fact, its a rip off. I'm not going to pay another $50 for what is essentially a mod. It would be like paying for every class update that TF2 gets. All they are doing is making new levels, new character models, and adding melee. Woo.... big deal.

Why does everyone call L4D a "mod"? Because it runs on the Source engine?

He said that L4D2 is a mod of L4D.
DO NOT WANT.

No, L4D2 is a mod, L4D is a whole game in itself. It uses the source engine sure, but a version of the source engine that still is not available in SDK. Right now the highest SDK is Episode 2 or TF2, depending on what you're doing with it.

Which is a first for Valve.

A sequel less than a year would have a silly thought before this news when it comes to Valve *cough*Episode3*cough*

So Valve got a great reaction out of L4D and TF2. They decided to but devs on a game they could have creative fun. You realize the tech that is going to come out of this will show up in Episode 3 whenever they decide to work on it.

As I said in the other thread, I don't feel like I got my money's worth out of L4D so this just feels like a load of bollocks.
nope.

Actually L4D was done primarily by the Valve-acquired Turtle Rock Studios so :v:

ditto.

Loved the first, especially the free content.

This is obviously some good material, but I'm hoping they change their mind and rename/reprice this as Left 4 Dead: Episode 1 or something.

Why should it be considered an Episode if you have MORE content than the original?

The problem is, they were supposed to keep updating the game like they did with TF2. Coming out with a sequel barely a year later is just insulting to the people who forked out $50 for hardly any content.

Quote:
Valve intends to support hotly anticipated zombie survival shooter Left 4 Dead post-release with new characters, new maps, new achievements and new weapons in order to grow the community, Gabe Newell has revealed.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at Leipzig Games Convention, the Valve co-founder and managing director said the developer intended to follow a similar downloadable content policy as it has with Team Fortress 2.

...

[Gabe Newell:] "So we'll do the same thing with Left 4 Dead where we'll have the initial release and then we'll release more movies, more characters, more weapons, unlockables, achievements, because that's the way you continue to grow a community over time."

Why are they coming out with a sequel they're probably going to charge $50 for, when everything in the new game was already promised to us? :(

Minus the experience I already got from L4D1, this is probably going to be far less added fun. Sure, there's slightly varied gameplay and more assets and set pieces, but I don't think thats going to do it for me for a casual shoot-em-up game.

Sucks for people who bought the first game, but for people who didn't (like myself) it looks pretty sweet.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.
