...got two seats in the European Parliament.

How. Can someone in the UK explain to me this. Even if the positions themselves aren't powerful at all, how would this event affect things?

Didn't the Pirate party get two as well, or was that just in Sweden?

When the economy goes to pot, these nutjobs always come to get some power.
Look at most of the world circa 1930s.

They were voted in Sweden into the EU parliament.
Sorry for the lousy German

Ugh. It was my area that gave them one of the seats. It's usually a liberal area, but they've made a huge balls up with the power they've had, and now no bugger wants to vote labour either so ....

Bugger.

No we didn't.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

So basically the gist of all of this is that the European Union uses a haphazardly-designed voting system inspired by the gelatinous afterbirth of Swedish inbreeding in spite of the fact that credible philosophers and political scientists have been discrediting such a single plurality for hundreds of years as awarding positions of power to extreme elements simply because they tend to be more cohesive than groups with more moderate policies.

Almost like, you know, the European Union was actually created by a bunch of corrupt retard MBAs who don't give a flying **** about effective representation as long as they get enough time to extort their retirement fund out of American corporations before they get arrested for pederasty.

Anything other than a preferential voting system is insane and corrupt.

Fair enough not wanting to vote for the effing conservatives but they could have at least gone for the lesser of 2 evils and voted Lib Dem.
nope.

I think that elected representatives should only be allowed to affect policy which they mentioned in their campaign.

I don't understand the idea behind people protest voting for the BNP.
"Oh those people in parliament are a bunch of wankers, so in protest I'll vote for a bunch of fascist wankers, that'll improve things!"
They could've voted for almost anything else and it'd be better - apart from Conservatives & Lib Dems there were loads of small parties and independents to choose from.

My one hope is that now that the spotlight is upon them they'll make such absolute twats out of themselves that they'll have to spend another 30 years trying to rebuild their image before they're ever voted for again.

Do the SNP ever campaign down south?

I personally want to beat the **** out of everyone in Scotland who voted for them this week. They had the highest percentage of overall votes up here. :argh:

Edit: Also the UK Independace party ended up with more seats than Labour and the Lib Dems? Dubyateeeff?
nope.
