Anyone try one or see one yet? I'm really curious as to how they perform. I also have to wonder what kind of impact the led tv will have on the market, being that burning out leds isn't exactly a quick process. Discuss.

They're LCD displays using LEDs for backlights. The technology is no different than the display on my MacBook Pro. Yes, they look better than fluorescent backlit LCDs. Are they worth the premium right now? Not really.

Yep. Basically there are 3 types of LCD backlights. Standard fluorescent backlights (what most monitors and TVs use), white LED backlights (higher end monitors use these, as well as most TVs marketed as "LED TVs"), and RGB LED backlights (really high end monitors and "LED TVs" use these, and they give the best color representation and contrast).

The only nice thing in the "LED" TV series to me is the even smaller size. Unfortunately, what they cut in materials they made up for in price...

My boss recently bought one. He likes it.

But, he can afford it too.

Yep, but they're still a few years away from wide adoption since right now they're super, super expensive and only available in tiny sizes.

If I recall, the tiny sizes are directly related to expense. Large panels are possible to make just too expensive.
