Doom3 is a major event in gaming history. A lot of people bought and enjoy the game. A lot of people want to buy it. A lot of people don't enjoy it. It seems like there are TONS of possible discussion topics about this, so why are we banning them in a DISCUSSION FORUM? It simply makes no sense to me.

At the time I made the announcement, everyone and their dog was starting a new thread to say and ask the same thing.

Yeah but Vincent just closed a perfectly valid thread, I don't get it... we should be encouraging discussion, not limiting it (within the rules of course).

I hate to say it, but Echoman is right..

Other than the technology, what is so great about Doom 3? It's the average run of the mill FPS. I mean, there's nothing in it FPS wise that can't be done in any other FPS. And also, it's not "OMFG I CRAPPED MY PANTS SCARY". I agree, the first few levels, I was freaked out. After that, everytime I went into a room I thought to myself "Dark....probably a zombie in the corner in the closet. Hmmm...some ammo and shields. I bet if I pick taht up some new enemies will pop-up. Hmm...a big box. I bet some zombie with a gun will go hide behind that and take shots at me and I ahve no cule wehre he is!? OMG FUN!" After a while, it just became too predictable. You knew something was gonna pop out from behind you.

Doom 3 is a gooooooooooood game, a damn good game at that. But it is overrated. It no where near deserves the 96/100 that it got from PC Gamer. The technology and grahpics get 11/10. The game itself, not nearly as good as the technology that powers it.

I'm only half way through the game, and I so far agree with buck. However, I do believe that the technology behind Doom 3 is what is truely impressive, in addition that there is a linux client on the way. (where the hell is it, anyway??? ) I believe that id and other companies will use this game's tech to build on and create gameplay that is truly great. Doom 3 (more or less) intends to be a relativly shallow showcase of the engine's features, and it does a darn well job of doing it.
