I'm having trouble with using 3d acceleration with JK. I get this weird kind of HOM effect every time it's enabled. I'm running a 4850X2 1GB. Has anyone else encountered this or even better, a solution? I did get the unofficial patch.

I think I once had this problem in the demo version, on an NVidia card. I could remember wrong and I'm not sure how to fix it, though.

Man, this must be one of my useless posts ever, and I've made plenty of those. :(
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Irrelevant post:

I remember back when JK came out and it required a 3d-accelerated video card, and I had to worry if I had one or not. Ah, those were the days.

Somewhat related - I have an old desktop I threw together as an extra gaming machine. It's got an x800pro and a 19" LCD. If 3d accel is turned on in JK I can't select 1440x900. Turn off 3d and it's there.

what.

Um no, it has a software renderer (in addition to the hardware one).

But it's so slow you might as well need one.

As far as I know any new ATI cards combined with JK are bound for a trail of failure.

new computers with older games sometimes have either little quirks or just don't work at all

for a while JK didn't work at all... i could get the menus and the opening cutscene but after the loading screen it would crash... it works now but who knows what will happen if i upgrade some drivers

i'm having some hit or miss issues with shadows working 100% properly in splinter cell... shadows in motocross madness don't work at all

i could probably dig up some other old games that have some kind of problem on my computer (which isn't exactly new)

Software renderer worked great, the whole first year or more I had it I had no 3d accel.
