RPG Classes

I need someone to help me finalize this rewritten list of classes for my long term Paperback RPG (The Wizard class has specific schools of wizardry after it)

Major Class followed by Subclasses (Some are split by sex due to sex-based stats)

Fighter-
Warrior
Paladin
Deathlord
Barbarian
Amazon
Monk

Healer-
Cleric
Shaman

Mage-
Sorcerer
Sorceress
Wizard
[Schools]
Diviner
Conjurer
Abjurer
Illusionist
Transmuter
Evoker

Nature-
Druid
Witch
Warlock
Ranger

Espionage-
Bard
Rogue
Ninja

Ask about any of the classes, and suggest any others. I'm trying to keep Middle Eastern, and then just have variant names for different regions, so ninja might get taken out and just substituted for Monk.

Also, I'll be elaborating on a race list, so suggestions for races would also be nice.

I'm trying to keep a general group here, and not go off on my own creations, like so many RPGs tend to do (Beastlord?). So, most of my non-class ideas, like a beast lord, will be occupation skills. 'Breader' or 'Handeler' would be the occupation type. Perhaps I'll start the occupation list as well.

Suggestions?

Gandalf, care to define those specifically in compairison the the Wizardry Schools. If you have one that I don't, I'd like to include it.

And yes, it's a big list, but like I said, this is a hobby, not a project. I'm willing to work on each and every class. I love doing it, so it's the more the merrier.

This was quickly thrown together, so I KNOW there are more. I'll edit this list to include people's suggestions that I see fit for the list. Try to be general, but useful. I don't know if there are any skills involved with being a 'tax colector' that'd help a player in game :-P

I didn't see "illusionist" so you can scratch that off.

Abjurer dispels magic and/or attacks
Conjurer creates things (like summoning creatures)
Transmuter enhances characters also shapeshifts
Evoker is basically offensive magic so all your elemental schools can be lumped into evocation.
Diviner has foresight/premonition magics and also you can consider far-seeing magics

You stupid fat hobbitsies, you're so unhelpful and useless. Flexor, you should just die.

Oh, and gandalf, what I think I might do, is use my schools as a 'Type:' area in a specific spell's discription, than go with your more general schools as the selectable schools for the Wizard class.

kIRB, just have one Wizard class and let the player select what spells they want, like the force points system in JK/JO/JA. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Problem Solved.

All right. I took a look at your list. Here's my take. Rogue and Ninja and Bard would stay as Espionage. Seducer is just extraneous or would be the female name for Bard. Monks are pretty much warriors. They do a lot of training to fight martial art style.

You should rename "Knight" to "Fighter" and include "Monk" in "Fighter." You can morph the Savages into "Fighter" probably since they're the same only they rage.

I think you have too many mage schools. You should probably lump-sum the elemental schools into one.

S'about it.

A bard is, generally, an enchanter through song and dance. As well as being an enchanter, the bard is well trained with elequent styles of combat, such as swordplay. (Which reminds me, adding Swashbuckler to the Occupations list.) Bards are also well skilled in assassin techniques. Because of their charismatic abilities, the Bard is able to assassinate with ease by being the 'Entertainer' for the night, in which he either slips a pill into his victims drink once they've become less aware by the specifically selected songs of disoritentation. As well, their dancing and acrobatics abilities, usually used to entertain, make them strong footed, perfect for the stresses that a rogue must endevor, as well as a skilled swordsman.

Singer/Musician? Yes
Mage? A little
Theif? Uh-huh
Bards are, to quote D&D: A jack-of-all trades and master of none.
They are generally quite charismatic, which they fall back on whenever their caught theiving or whatever.

Generally in rpg's beastlord is a subclass of Druid, one that specialises in strengthening his animal companions.
Oh, I couldn't help noticing theres nor Beserker class or similar, come on, you need people with mental problems!

Hmm, well it's hard to discuss a class list for an rpg I know nothing about.
So far I'd say it sounds like you've got an awful lot of classess, but sometimes thats a good for a game.
Care to divulge more about your RPG? I'm interested in how it all works.

During my lots of free time here @ work I took the liberty to simplify.
Code:
Fighter-
	Paladin
	Deathlord
	Monk
	Barbarian/Amazon

Healer-
	Cleric
	Shaman

Mage-
	[Schools] (Desc)
		Necromancer (death magic)
		Enchanter (mind-affecting magic)
		Illusionist (invisibility, imaging)
Evoker or Elementalist (Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, weather)
		Transmuter (enhancement, shapeshifter)
		Conjurer (summoner)
		Diviner (premonition, far-seeing)

	Wizard
	Sorcerer/Sorceress

Nature-
	Druid
	Witch/Warlock
	Ranger

Espionage-
	Rogue
	Bard/Seducer
	Ninja

Again, it's just what I think. Take or leave. Deadman's correct a good # of classes can be good for a particular RPG. The only real thing I did was trim down the spell schools.

Well, there's not really much to say about the RPG. It's supposed to be a customizing haven, and it's supposed to allow you to be pretty much anything you set your sites on. As well, I'm forging a system where classes are achieved, not picked at the start. You start out as a normal Peasant, and can work up to a hero, if you'd like. Or, you can just raise badass horses and sell them for much money, then become the king by paying people off, then you can go kill a poopload of people. It's a really free-floating system, so far. As well, you could start your campaignors off on a hero-start, if you'd like. All up to the DM and Players, really.

What exactly do you need to know?

PSION >_> I dare you to explain it. I just dare you.

"Oh."
2004-08-24, 5:25 PM #22
Gandalf, I used a few of your suggestions and refined the list.

A Psion is basically an x-man, with neither divine nor arcane spells, all of their skills are basically another sense. I have intentions on making a single rule-book for each class and race, thus I can include the detailed, more advanced rules that could be used with each, as well as the subclasses and special focus' of each class. The Psion class will be a bonus class added to this selection.

Archery will be a skill (adding it as an occupation, now) most classes can take. What I think is silly, is having only one type of weapon specific classes, unless you design it this way. Hence, a Sword Master presteige class of Bards, or an arcane archer of Amazons/wizards.

If you want to keep a Middle-Eastern feel, rename ninja to assassin, and forget the paladin and monk. I'd also change the magic style to one more fitting, but that's a lot of work.

{Annendum]
Lose the druid, too. And I'm not too keen on the nature group. Move ranger to fighter or espionage, and witch to healer or magic user.

Races:

Drake
Dwarf
Elf
Ent
Fairy
Giant
Gnome
Goblin
Half
Halfling
Human
Imp
Nymph
Orc
Pixie
Golem

Note, I'm going to be making Race varients, such as Wood Elves, Flesh Golems, and whatnot for each specific major race. But, a major race can be played just as the major race. The minor races will basically be sub-categories. Once I've got a strong race list, I'll start asking about minor races. Those are probably the absolute hardest to come up with.

[A note about halfs: They're 2 halves of 2 different races, or half one race and half an animal. There must be a race capable of cognative thinking within the mixture. Very fine tuned rules will be made for these types of creatures, and templates for these types will be eventually available.]

Yes, just dump the class system and focus on skills and professions. Or you could use a similar system that d20 modern uses; the starting classes are defined by their special field like strong, fast, tough, charismatic, smart etc.
Or just do the same as VtM does and let the character choose his special field: Physical, Mental, Social and then Talents, Skills and Knowledges.
