Well I bought it on a whim, and whilst its bloody buggy (Had it mess my HDD up earlier causing I/O Errors) its also fun.

TBH though if you arent a villain I dont know what a villain is. Theres utterly no penalty for going mental and butchering civilians and soldiers/cops.

Its very much a free roaming NYC (Dont know if it unlocks more but its not full NYC) and the scale it awesome. Being able to elbow drop tanks off the side of a building is awesome, as is later on lobbing cars at helicopters dropping troops.

Alex Mercer seems to be a combination of Wolverine (Claws +Regeneration), Hulk (Strength and mega jumps and later the huge fists), Flash (Running up buildings),Spiderman (Sort of but more Venom as he has a short ranged whip type upgrade, but seriously good agility), Mystique (Being able to absorb ANY human target and switch between their looks).

To cap that you can learn to steal Military Vehicles, use enemy weapons, call in artillery whilst in disguise or even be an *** to enemy soldiers (In disguise pointing at a guy and shouting "Thats him" and watching him get shot).

Its initially very hard (after an annoying tutorial where it gives you uber powers then takes em away) especially fighting Hunters.

Overall I like it (despite the bugs on the PC Version, though I understand the console ones are buggy too).

Its especially awesome to go mental after a bad day at work in Prototype (Huge spikes coming out of the ground and impaling dudes, slicing people into bits with the claws, lobbing cars at people, stealing tanks)

I want to get it once it gets cheaper. It looks fun, but not really good IMO. Then again, Farcry 2 looked good and it turned out to be a turd after the first 2 or 3 hours.

Debated between getting Prototype and Infamous (since they're very similar), but Infamous had overall better reviews, so it won out. Of course then Ghostbusters came out so I stopped playing Infamous for the time being...

Prototype is an ridiculously fun game, and well worth it. Not since GTA: San Andreas have I enjoyed messing around pointlessly in a game so thoroughly.
It's by no means a serious game or anything, and the storyline... well....

The game is just fun, and that's all that matters ^_^

Can he swim?
2009-06-18, 10:35 AM #9
No, he jumps back out of the water.
Which is strange, but fine, as theres very little water anyway and it would be annoying if they got you stuck swimming slowly instead.

After playing Red Faction, Tanks just don't feel right unless I can drive through buildings with them.

Looks like one to pick up in a couple of months when it's come down in price for me. I've got enough on with Rock band, Guitar Hero III, Fallout 3, Prey, Dead Space and Mass Effect all of which I've started, but not finshed :o

Prototype is the only sandbox-style game that I actually thought was entertaining for more than an hour. Probably because of the pure amount of ridiculous s*** you can do to kill people. The parkour is awesome, too. :D

i grabbed a cop car and started running through crowds carrying it... then i see the icon that pops up when someone calls in a strike team pop up over the cop car i'm running around with... they said "suspect spotted.. blah blah..." and i laughed

then i ran up a building still carrying the car and threw it at the strike team helicopter

Hmm I think I may get Infamous over this due to better review scores though I do like Prototype's bigger focus on melee.

I find it kind of odd both games came out near eachother, Wouldn't it make more financial sense to not be in direct competition?

I'm playing it on PC. Didn't have any bugs, runs VERY smoothly at highest settings, and it's insanely stylish and just plain awesome. It's like a simulation of the baddest mother****er in the world. Everything an action game should be.

comparing infamous to prototype...

i've only played the demo for infamous and got turned off rather quickly... not sure exactly how to explain what i didn't like about it...

prototype just does nearly everything right... not to say i find no faults but they are mostly little things that annoy

I've watched a couple of video reviews for Infamous, and wasn't particularly excited. Not to mention I don't think it was released for PC.

Talking about the minor annoying things in Prototype, the only thing that annoys me is that the sneak-absorb and "shoot this guy" functions are extremely unintuitive on the PC - I literally have to follow dudes for up to a minute before the options finally light up.

Not sure if it's the same for the consoles, though.

Sneak Absorb only works when your close behind, but because you move so fast you almost always bump into the guy.

Oh yeah, that is one thing I didn't like about the game: soldier AI when you are in disguise is extremely dense. You can drop from 20 stories up and land directly in front of their faces and they'll just say 'I'd better go check that out!'. They basically won't discover you even if you run at 30 MPH and parkour over cars in front of them. It was a real killjoy to discover that the whole stealth aspect of the game was basically ruined by terrible enemy AI. Good thing stealth is always just one option! :hist101:

This leads to funtimes, Jump off the Empire state building onto an APC, they won't suspect a thing.

the enemy AI only spots you if you wall walk or glide while diguised... or if you have your mutations showing...

I've ran up walls and jumped 30 feet into the air infront of a base and they didn't do anything,

They don't give a flying crap about wall walking or gliding, I do it all the time, INSIDE enemy bases, even on the hard difficulty.
They do care about mutations, or attack on their persons, but that's about it.

Oh, there is a lot of mutation detectors the further you get along in the game of course, but still, stealth detection could've been a lot better.

I wish they'd coded a bit more context-sensitive things for the AI to watch out for. For example, actually make the AI watch you when you do suspicious things in disguise, such as the patsy. I just walked around a base patsying people left and right and no one suspected that the one guy who said everyone else was infected was actually... infected. It would have been nice if one guy saw you patsy more than one person, he would start shooting and/or raise the alarm.

Uhhh games don't tend to do the low-level drive access... or hardware failure... that would cause this. Give your drive a check up with a S.M.A.R.T. tool or something.
