Can you still play JK:DF2 online?
2009-06-18, 7:41 AM #1
I used to play this game back in the day when it was on Zone.com. It seems like yesterday I played this..I was 12 years old when it was out now I am 22..life goes by so fast...

Anyways, is it possible to still play this online? I remember maps such as Jedi High School, and the SPORK Mod...

So..anyway to play online at all?

Not unless you can find someone to play tcp/ip with you. No one here will. It has been tried countless times.

That's a shame. This was a great game back in the day. I remember all the memories I had when I played on Zone.com. Many people played Spork, JHS Map, CTF, and many others. I wonder what everyone is doing that played on Zone.com is doing these days.

Probably playing better games.

As much as I enjoyed JK back in the day, the atrocious net code and questionable hit detection in the multiplayer now puts me off.

Although what I missed more from JK and games from that era was the fun of simple modding. Want to play a map or mod? Just grab some people and jump to it.

Shame these days the PC gaming scene is tanking, and games devs don't really care to make games as mod friendly. Not to mention people expectations for mods have gone up drastically. No longer can you slap a bunch of box shaped objects together and call it a gun model as you did in JK.

I don't particularly miss the rabid Zone "community". You can still get the same experience on Xbox Live...

I have a 360 and play on Xbox live. It's not the same, really. I liked Zone.com a lot, I used to play Quake 2, DF2, Revolt, Duke 3D in the IPX room..those were the days.

Games these days are just tanking, you are correct. Gaming these days is dominated by Halo, Gears of War, and Call of Duty which are dust compared to Quake 2, Quake 3, UT, DF2, NFS:HS, and all the games in the 90's.

I just remember playing with everyone and I often ask myself "What are they doing today?"..do they remember the days of Zone.com, and DF2? Life goes by too quick

I'd love to play JK on multiplayer sometime. If we can find 4 people total (2 more people on Massassi is definately doable) then we should set up a game some time.

I'll play! But unfortunately, I can't get Patch commander to work for some reason, so I'll have to play vanilla JK. .(
DO NOT WANT.

That's fine, but I think I have the unofficial patch installed. We'll all have to find out what versions we're using, whether we'll have JK Enhanced, or nothing at all.

JK enhanced didnt work for me either :(

I remember patch commander wouldn't work or wouldn't download, so I downloaded JK:E and made a .bat file to launch JK using it. have you tried that?

I just played JK the other day via JK Launcher (it allows you to host games, join games & it managers your addons so there's no longer any need for Patch Comander). Spork, if you want to play with some folks that used to play on the Zone, I'd suggest checking out JKDF2.NET & JKDF2 CHAT (there's generally 25+ people in there at any given time & they play at least a few games each day). If you're looking for the latest & greatest JK stuff, check out JKHUB.
? :)

Bah, I tried JK Launcher. It found no servers and no people, so I figured it was a dead project.

Some people still play on IGZ now and then. And on IRC.

Patch commander download will work if you use the link on JKhub. The official Patch Commander site link has been bogus for years.

Just a warning: JKDF2.net is full of cheaters. The guy who runs the site (with the sadly unironic moniker "EAH_XxHeReTiKxX") is the syphilitic loser who puzzled out how COG checksums work, making basically any cheat cog possible. Don't expect to play a fair game.

i'm working on something to let us all play together again, maybe some shots from it soon :)

Who the hell spends their free time looking for ways to cheat in a 12 year old game? :carl:
2009-06-18, 11:15 PM #19
The same type of people who spend their time on a forum dedicated to said 12 year old game.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Actually, no.
2009-06-18, 11:38 PM #21
Haha, i gotta give Gold props on that one.

Even if this forum did spend a significant amount of time discussing JK, the difference between people who enjoy playing a classic game for the fun of it, and some idiot who tries to boost his ego by cheating in said game, is vast.

Jon C, I imagine having detected somewhat of a shift toward approval of JK in you. Is this true and if so, what prompted it? :o
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I still edit and play JK. I'm always down for Multiplayer. I regularly play any JK SP level I can find, I rummage through the levels here on massassi as well as TACC.

PM me for my AIM or MSN contact info, from there we can set up games whenever you please.
2009-06-19, 5:13 PM #29
It would be nice (although damn near impossible) if someone created an in-game interface similar to that of the UT series. Where a set of levels is available on the host side, and players can choose to vote for each as well as game modes etc. Also suporting client side downloads for those who don't have the mods/levels.

I loved Zone. Lobbies = server list.

Now it's just a game. I miss the chatting, making friends, and organizing games :(

Not to mention, clans had a way to communicate with each other. A.k.a, wars :P

Seriously, someone runs a site for a 12 year old game, just so he can hack the very few people that play it?
This is why we can't have nice things, Where's triscuit?

we can LAN it at my house
