is it still decent when it's done only for the publicity it will garner?

Its also possible that it was already planned and THEN became publicly known. Like Johnny Depp going to a children's ward at a hospital dressed as Capt. Jack Sparrow and reading stories, only to be picked up by the media.

I always find it amazing how people can hold onto their lives so much longer when they aspire to something.

I might agree if it were a different company, but Up! clearly doesn't need the publicity, and neither does Pixar. Everyone (except for Free because his daddy touched him in his pants when he saw Toy Story in the theaters) pretty much has universally loved their movies, I'm pretty sure Up! would've sustained it's box office success regardless. Although I suppose on the margin it could only help.

I guess bottom line is that Pixar's movies have basically deserved teh benefit of the doubt that is given to them when they release a new flick, and it makes me feel better to give them the benefit of the doubt in this situation too :P

I wasn't implying that Pixar had less than honorable intentions. It was a philosophical question.

Read it ago on GameFAQs, nice to see a dying wish fulfilled. Some of the posts were interesting though even though they're not really appropriate.

As much as we like to think of companies as big, soulless, conscious entities, Pixar is made up of individual human beings, most of whom have the capacity for altruism. When companies do nice stuff like this, it's because individuals working for the company decided to do it, not because the company's egoist hive-mind concluded that it would be in the company's best interests.
I'm just a little boy.

Once again, I wasn't trying to imply that Pixar's motives were anything but noble.

I thought it was quite entertaining, personally. Girlfriend thought the same.

*shudder* on cars, the first time I watched it I thought it was OK but since our babysitter bought it for my son he's played it about a billion and a half times. I guess I felt the same way about Up as I did about Wall-E. Meh. Some funny parts but nothing else of value.
2009-06-22, 1:33 PM #39
You didn't like Wall-E? o_o
