What exactly are you searching in Google? I mean, if we could produce test results.

... Idiots. It's not IE that's ****ed. I'd bet he gets the same results no matter what browser he tries.

Couchman, you have one of the google-redirect viruses. Malwarebytes might be able to find it.

I've only done the quick searches with Malwarebytes, I will run a full scan, thanks for the rare help lol

Yeah, sounds like malware.

Wouldn't have malware if you didn't run IE.

Zone Alarm is terrible. Delete it.

Get Avira or Avast, both of which are far superior to AVG and still free.

Couchman, try using firefox with javascript and everything else disabled. A lot of those viruses work by injecting javascript code directly into an http stream, this is why they effect all browsers. Others will mess with your hosts file to redirect your google searches through a proxy. Even if you remove the original virus, the entry in the host file will remain and must be manually removed.
The places these viruses are likely to have messed up, that need repaired, are your ethernet drivers, your host files, windows firewall, tcp/ip drivers; just to name a few of the likely ones.

If you also can't update malewarebytes, or something goes wrong with the AVG download, you definitely have a flavor of this virus that redirects your http traffic.

Ran Opera for 3 years now and have had absolutely -0- problems with spyware, or malware. Went a whole year without running a scan and found nothing. I dare anyone running IE regularly to make the same claim.

So yes, I deserve a perfectly clean PC. kthanks.

Yeah, there's nothing impressive about that.

Ran various incarnations of IE for many, many years with 0 spyware issues. Know how? I'm not :downswords:.

Three Rs.

Restart. Reinstall. Reformat.
2009-06-27, 8:32 PM #38
Also Google for and download Autoruns and Rootkit Revealer and run them, look for suspicious things. Autorun's "Hide Microsoft and Windows entries" can help hide most signed Windows stuff so you'll be focused on third-party stuff.

Also be sure to do a scan for stuff in safe mode as some viruses can't run there, and some can hide whilst running.
