I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

Hahaha, FOX 8 is ****ing stupid, this is not new. Must be one of the morning shows.

ROFL, "this is what the bear probably looked like, except real". I wonder if we'll be hearing about this on Colbert tonight.

Fox news did something that's funny in an unironic way, holy scat.

I would give that reporting team a raise, or possibly some kind of award for journalistic excellence.

I liked the bear climbing the tree.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.
2009-06-25, 10:23 PM #12
Holy ****. Not only did they have at least one staffer dumb enough to suggest using a cutout bear, but they had no staffers smart enough to say "That's a stupid ****ing idea."

DA BEARS

Where is Burrie when you need him :(
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Well, I'll be damned. There are bears in the woods. I'd never have thunk it.

Its obviously mean't to be a parody. You can tell when the guy dresses up as a rabbit. If someone were to take this serious, they need to be removed from the gene pool immediatly.
Nothing to see here, move along.

You obviously don't know what "parody" means.

Yes, it's clear that they're trying very hard to be hilarious. Unfortunately, they're the ****ing news, and we expect them to report on what's happening with some degree of professionalism.

Yeah, you are really in no position to determine who's smart enough to pass on their genes.

I enjoyed it, it's actually refreshing to see something besides the basic old bull****.

I agree. I'd have to see their whole newscast to be sure (there's a channel here that absolutely blows), but it's fine taking a story like this (that's not really a big deal) and being a bit lighthearted about it.

Maybe they don't airing see one humorous feature as unprofessional because they actually know what professional means, and don't care about the reactions of whiny people with no sense of humor.

People who take themselves too seriously usually have ego issues which make them giant morons. Said morons often misuse the term "unprofessional" to describe people who secure enough to enjoy human emotion and don't see the need to participate in a destructive pissing contest that discourages creative thought and normal human social interaction.

Being professional means being someone who can do a good job because they take pride in their work, as well as being able to interact with other people in a respectful, friendly and constructive manner to accomplish said job. Being a passive aggressive douche who looks for bogus reasons to criticize people in order to increase their social standing is not professional.

I hate the cooperate world.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed that almost ALL newscasters mispronounce any remotely foreign word? Like Bejing. They all say "Bay-JING" not "Bay-szhing," i.e. a hard J instead of a soft J.

Anyone who's not a native speaker is more likely than not to mispronounce words. Even I at times pronounce English words in a weird fashion (e.g. I one time said "springes" instead of "springs").

This isn't, by and large, a community of stupid people. I think it's important to point that out before I say anything else because it provides context for my main point: There is a difference between the kind of humor that has your audience laughing along with you, and the kind that makes you the joke. The reaction in this thread, I think, makes it pretty clear that this report falls into the latter category.

If I've given the impression that I think this is a such a big deal that it's not even amusing, I apologize, because that's not the case. I laughed at this like everyone else. But the reason I laughed, and I think the reason most people laughed, is that these people are idiots. Either they actually thought this was a good, legitimate presentation, or they're inviting more ridicule for a brand that already (usually deservedly) gets plenty of it.

Not sure about the "no sense of humor"/"giant morons"/"passive-aggressive douche" portions of your post, but I'll say this much: If I were looking for any excuse to criticize Gold, I'd have stopped with the bit where he was trying to tell us who should be allowed to breed. Because c'mon, that's hilarious.

I was laughing along with them, Looks to me like they got a sensationalist story on their desks, with orders to show it, and made this.
2009-06-27, 1:42 AM #30
It may have been a slow news day, but that doesn't make what they shot, edited together and then aired any good. I mean a cut out of bear in some bushes as opposed to a stock photo or stock footage of a bear walking around wasn't available? And the "recreation" was absurd.

Look, someone had the awful idea to make that story an terrible parody of itself.

Yeah, that wasn't really directed at you. Professionalism is one of those "don't get me started" subjects.
