For instance, if you have a screenshot of a movie or a person and you don't know who it is or how to search for it you can just upload it

Ah, to me it just seemed like links to websites where the image was found rather then information on the said image.

It's for detecting copyright infringement. Example, when that thing with the that facebook game stealing images off DA went down, the DA people used tineye to identify a lot of the work in the game.

I've had a tineye for a long time and I use it daily for multiple different things. It's great for finding textless versions of macrofied pictures. Some stock image sites slap their watermark on images that are actually CC or Free, so it's also good for that. It's really convenient since all I have to do is rightclick -> tineye the photo.
