macbook clicking

So, I picked up a 13" MacBook Pro on Monday, and it's been pretty great. Except every time I pick it up I hear the hard drive make a "clicking" noise.

I know a couple other people here have the unibody MacBooks, do yours do that? If not I'll probably bring it to the Apple store tomorrow and be all "WTF MATE"

Is it the familiar click of death? If so, chances are the drive is defective.

Just bring it in.

Well it seems to be working fine, no SMART errors. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the motion sensors it has. Though my black MacBook never did this...

Are the motion sensors suppose to "guard" the harddrive in the case of fall or abuse?

Apple's been using really cheap and lousy 2.5" drives lately.

Yeah, it's got a Hitachi drive in it. :/

Hitachi makes the worst hard drives, I'm not even kidding.

My mom's 24" iMac had a Hitachi hard drive that failed like 4 months after she bought it. The only hard drive I've ever had die was a 1 TB Hitachi.

I've never bought a Hitachi HDD, I have always bought WD or Maxtor (when it existed). My MBP has a Fujitsu in it. It's two years old and has been doing fine. The only problem I have had with it is ****ty batteries. Sony makes some terrible batteries. I have to call Apple and get a replacement on a prematurely dead battery. Only 130 cycles and it's dead. REALLY?!

Fraid mine's not making any noise and I'm picking it up and sort of doing superman with it.

I've long since yoinked the drive out of my MB, and put a 320GB Seagate in it instead. Using the old drive as an external Time Machine backup now.

I replace about 15 Hitachi laptop hard drives at work, per week. No ****ing kidding. Fujitsu & Toshiba would be next in line.
? :)

I took it to apple and they said it was normal, that it was the heads parking because moving the laptop sets off a motion sensor.

Doesn't really matter, replaced the drive with a 500GB WD, which doesn't make any noises. :D

Unlike my 2008 MBP, where the only thing you're given direct access to is the memory...
