http://www.programmerfish.com/source-code-of-several-7800-games-released/

Saw it on Digg. I downloaded some of them, the programs are complete gibberish to me, I don't even know what language it is.

Well, maybe at this rate we can get the JK source in the late 2020s.

Hm. There's been a push for the release of the Thief: Dark Project and Thief 2 source code since Eidos got bought out. Developers at Eidos Montreal are actually looking for it, and the only obstacle seems to be finding it in the giant mess from moving so often.

Has anyone actually ASKED for the JK source code?

Yes:

1.) It's totally out of the question because it could allow people to modify Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine.
2.) LucasArts doesn't even have the source code anymore.

1.a) I don't think anyone even cares about that game either anymore

and

1.b) Why can't we now? Apart from the EULA of course. It still uses cogs... are there technical limitations or something?

also

1.c) I assume the Indy3d engine is a derivative of JK and thus JK's source wouldn't really help all THAT much?

1. a,b.) Indy IP is off-limits regardless of how old the game in question is. You can thank Steven Spielberg for that. Yes, they care.

1. c.) 16 bit mats were discovered by reverse-engineering Indy file formats. The engines are more similar than you think. I suspect they're utterly identical with the exception of a few DirectX fixes and new COG verbs.

Technically the mat format supports 32 bit textures.
2009-07-04, 10:31 AM #11
Technically BMP supports base-1 encoding. Do any JK derivatives support 32-bit?
2009-07-04, 10:32 AM #12
Not that I'm aware of. But I only tried it in JK itself and I could have ****ed up the format.

What is there;
JK
Mots
Indy
Droid Works

Any others?

Grim Fandango used the 3DO and animation components.
