Jedi Knight in life
2009-07-05, 10:17 AM #1
It's been a long time since I've been here. I've just recently come back from university and had the urge to play jedi knight. While I've been without the ability to play it though I swear I kept seeing references to it in my life. One major example of this is car registration plates - like BGJ being featured on them. Then there was the other week when I heard the phrase "content old man" and immediatly thought of the cutscene at the end of level one.

Has anyone else experienced similar things? Or is this just me? :P

Not exactly JK, but I've noticed plenty of FGR and GBK plates around here. Hell, my ex-neighbour had a GEB registration plate.

That's pretty much it.

"Jedi Knight"? That's a "Star Wars" thing right?

Goit, I know exactly what you're talking about. It also doesn't help that I used to play & edit JK & MotS with quite a few of my RL friends.
? :)

Did you remember to say "I see dflt.mat!"?
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I sometimes look at things and try to estimate how many brushes it would take to re-create it.

I met a guy today called Gordon Freeman.

Every time I see a Gourmet Burger Kitchen I think of this place too.

Yeah I've seen a lot of license plates around here that start with the letters JKL and that always reminds me of editing JK

i see a bunch of license plates here that start with MAB or YCS

which instantly read in my head as michael angelo batio or Yorkville Custom Special

not related to JK but this thread inspired this!

Except JO, being Q3 based, used brushes. JK used sectors (negative space, as opposed to brush-based positive space).

Sometimes I think about how sectors would best fit to make real-life architecture.

I always say things like "Wow that looks fake" or "Look at that skybox!" because occasionally the sky literally looks like a skybox or some distant objects look like flat sprites. xD

My usual one is "Look! The end of the level!" when around 50 - 100 feet away, the world seemingly ends. This is most notable at my local movie theater, which is next to a bunch of cliffs, and right behind these very short hills, there's absolutely nothing. lol

On the subject of JK though, I can't recall anything that reminded me of it, but I could have sworn I've seen something before.

I'll post here again if anything comes up :P

Thats about it.

No, although in retrospect, a picture with him would have been more beneficial.

All the sounds are ingrained in my head, and probably come from a stock library. So when I hear them elsewhere I automaticly think "Hey thats the walking on metal sound!" or "Thats the equipping stormie rifle sound!".
2009-07-07, 1:35 AM #31
Ive heard the rail det being fired sound several times.
DO NOT WANT.

We should make dflt.mat the new plaid.

I notice JK sounds sometimes. I'm sure other times I've thought of JK when seeing or doing something, but I can't remember them.
2009-07-07, 11:48 PM #36
The giant robot attack from Don Herzfeldt's Animation Show end segment features the same noise as the repeater gun reflecting off a force field. I've also heard the door closing sounds in several movies, including Star Wars.

That's not the repeater bounce off sound, thats the main turret sound.
It also has the rail det launch sound
Wait, nevermind the repeater bounce sound is later.
That video is covered in JK sounds.
2009-07-08, 7:17 AM #38
I also know someone who told me he got to say "Titles make my skin crawl".
2009-07-08, 8:31 AM #39
I've seen JK before in RL plenty of places, and it only is enhanced by the fact that I can't play JK properly on my damn vista machine, even with DOSBox and such. It's like a video game priapism.
2009-07-08, 9:55 AM #40
Sometimes when I play TF2 with some friends who actually know what JK is/was. We'll make kyle's death sound when he falls for laughs... everyone else just gets mad.
