Firefox 3.5

In-case you didn't know 3.5 is out. None of my firefox installations on any of my PCs automatically updated and I had to manually.

But one thing I am thankful for is the 'open a new tab' button like in IE.. FINALLY!

my hand doesn't sit on the keyboard so I never use that shortcut. It was always easier to just middle click the homepage button, but then google would take focus of the cursor off the address bar.

I'm finding that Firebug (1.4) and Firefox 3.5 actually make a usable combination for once

Opera has had this since the beginning.

Firefox has had a "new tab" button for a while. Either in Addon form or if you went to the 'customize' option. *shrug*

Yeah, it seems like in really early incarnations it was part of the default package, and then sometime along the way, it disappeared and became add-on fodder.

I had to manually update Saturday too. TabMixPlus didn't work with 3.5, but I found a version that did on their dev page.

I use Mouse Gestures, so I only have to flick the mouse.

mb having it on the tab bar is what they're referring to; it's been a toolbar button for a while or you could double click the empty tab bar space.

They don't do automatic upgrades for major releases right away like they do for minor ones.

Yeah you've had to do that since the beginning of time pretty much, they're slow on updating the AMO (addons.mozilla.org) version it seems.

I don't think I'll need TMP anymore though, since the main reason I used it was for the new tab button. Initially I liked it on the left instead of the right but I'm used to Chrome now and everyone has it on the right now, even IE.

I have always felt the best feature of TMP was single window mode.

Yeah I actually installed an extension to get rid of that little new tab button about 20 minutes after I installed 3.5.

I'm never going to use it and it was already annoying the hell out of me.
nope.

Uh. The new tab button is there in 3.0. In fact, I don't remember customizing the toolbar to add it the last time, either.

No it wasn't. I was running 3 on 3 different machines and they were all the same

EDIT: Glad to see no one bit.

meh, Opera works for me. Used to hate AJAX crap/Gmail/bbc iplayer, latest build is ok with it. No complaints now. It is a nice browser out the box. I tried firefox a couple of times (still have it installed in fact) but it's not really my thing.

Browser choice seems more like a personal thing to be honest. These days it barely makes a difference, and to think otherwise is a little silly. I'd say your connection speed is a much bigger factor in how fast your pages load.

I've tried most of the major browsers and from my experience none of them stand out for speed or reliability (with the exception of IE). I only choose to use Opera because I like the way it's laid out/functions. It's just a personal choice in the end though.

Also keep in mind that almost no one develops with Opera in mind, because it is consistently out-classed in usage or specs by Firefox, Safari and IE.

Not that it really matters because it deals with everything fine. Nothing wrong with using Opera as a browser.

Firefox isn't the be all end all that everyone here seems to believe it is. You can keep tooting the trumpets but I'm just not seeing the differences.

In the end it's just personal opinion.

Who said anything about Firefox being the end all?

Even on the Massassi forums, Google Chrome has nearly as much users as Opera (5.7% vs 6%), and if you combine Safari (3.8%) to that, it's actually more. Point being, Opera isn't terribly great like it's users love to go on and on about.

People only go on about Opera being good because so many people are quick to dismiss it.

I'm only defending it because I use it, and there seriously isn't anything wrong with it. :/

Opera's a great browser, and until the past year or so it was the fastest in most areas. It has a lot of built-in functionality but nothing close to the extensibility of Firefox.

I love opera for the ease of which I am able to open and operate tabs, I never have less then 30 open.

Opera is ok, but they usually aren't singing in english so I don't know what's going on. :downs:

Ever think it might be with the intent to piss off goons such as yourself? hmm?

I find it mildly amusing when you all piss and moan about it.

Opera has had it since the start, which is why it always made it so hard for me to switch. Maybe now is the time.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. I like that too. But I suppose I can survive with dragging tabs myself.

Or I'll just keep using Chrome. That works too. >_>

My Firefox 3.5 is actually a bit sluggish, but that's a vast improvement from the "super slow" it was in 3.0. It's probably mostly due to all the addons I have but even in safe mode resizing the window is an annoyingly sluggish (that word again) affair. Fortunately 3.6 will focus on speeding up the UI so that should help.
