i was reading this on an other forum. Sony is like mass banning people who were involved with a glitch involving mass credits. people that were unkownly tipped by this guy "bruse lee". you can read the whole story here.

I'm not shocked.. I no longer dislike SOE, I just out right hate them. I'd say that those players are bringing in their pay checks, but I would more than likely be wrong. Still, that type of behavior (SOE's way of dealing with their customers) shouldn't be tolerated.

The players that were banned are better off not fighting to get back into the game, that's just ridiculous.

I read through part of that thread, apparently they had a demonstration in which Sony threatened (and ended up doing it!) to close down the server on which the demonstrations were taking place. Also, people were being teleported everywhere to try to disperse the crowd. It feels like Sony is the Empire and all their customers are the Rebellion

Unfortunately, some ingame money has real world value. I'm a hardcore EverQuest player, SOE's real cash crop. There was a money exploit like 8 months back that totally threw off the economy and really screwed the value of platinum across all world servers. SOE finally located the problem, and there were a LOT of accounts banned.

What's funny, unlike with SWG, not many people were upset about the bannings. The economy restabilized, SOE put in a couple huge money pits to help drain off the excess platinum (an ingame "casino" where you dropped hundreds of thousands of plat to win meh items).

Now, if people are protrsting, I'd imagine some injustice has occured; some people unknowingly took advantage of this exploit and got banned... but, you should know better than to cheat. You pick that up pretty early on when you get into a Massively Multiplayer game.

The current value of platinum on my server is $10 for 10000 platinum. So ingame, I basically have the equivalent of $200.

Personally, I like SOE. Maybe they're sucking on the SWG front, but they've definately been keeping me happy with EQ.

p.S. - happydud asked if there have ever been ingame protests before; EQ has seen a good half dozen really massive ones. The two that stick out in my mind most (out of 5 years) is monks sitting outside a city called Freeport, demanding some dumb change, and warriors doing a sit-in, uhhh, somewhere, demanding better agro management.
