I ordered parts for my planned upcoming build from Newegg on Sunday

Yesterday I try to log in to find that I can't because my account has been suspended. My order was cancelled.

I call several times and learn that apparently the shipping address (where I am living on campus at my school) will not be shipped to "for security reasons" period. No matter what. Apparently it has been blacklisted(?) as a whole. Maybe in the past somebody living in this apartment pissed them off or something.

They said they'd unlock my account but it's still locked (but it hasn't been that long so I'll give it a bit longer).

So I'm delayed in getting my parts, I can't place a new order, and if/when I do I can't ship it here so I have to figure out some way to ship it somewhere else and retrieve it.

grr

There's no point to this thread, I just felt like ranting
I see where they're coming from and commend them for treating fraud seriously but it was sort of irksome to have my account randomly and without warning or notice suspended w/ no recourse.

I set up my online bill pay to not pay a certain bill until after I get paid, so it goes ahead and takes it out yesterday and over drafts.

The bank manager will be *****ed at until the overdraft fee is removed.

Hmm, Newegg has great service, I'm sure if they blacklisted your address, some terrible **** went down there or something. Just ship it to a friend's house.

Newegg blocked my account once, but thats because I was ordering from out of the country. Ordering off a VPN fixed that minor irritation.

Only (painfully obvious) suggestion I have is try shipping it to somebody you know nearby. Or maybe a local business will receive it for you.

On another note; check amazon for specific parts. I've often found their prices are right on par with newegg.

Customer service expeience:

Offender: Verizon Wireless

Product: LG EnV Touch

I purchased the EnV touch shortly after its launch on the Verizon line. Solid phone, and was very pleased.. until it started power cycling. The phone became useless seeing that as soon as it rebooted itself, you had a 15 second window until the next reboot. Brought it into the store for a temporary fix (something about a corrupt character within an incoming text message causing the phone to reset.. you'd think they would have throughly tested this..). Came home satisfied, to experience the same problem 5 days later. Went back to tech support to get a newbie idiot, who insisted that all Lg EnV phones were experiencing power cycling and that I had to forcibly downgrade my phone to a lesser model, of which I had no desire for, until they came up with a fix for the issue.

Grudgingly I went to the sales area, who informed me that I could only downgrade once, had to turn my EnV Touch in to them, and would have to buy the phone back for full price, because it was in fact not a problem with all EnV Touch handsets, according to him.

Marched back to tech support and demanded another rep. A more experienced employee came out and explained that the power cycle issues was caused by a faulty programming upload attempting to "ping" the phone (for lack of a better term). I explained that turning my brand new phone in was not an option, and that I would like a replacement model of the exact same phone. He went through three other phones with no avail, then began to trouble shoot my phone to find some sort of solution to help everyone.. like I didn't have **** to do that day. He finally gave it back with the problem seemingly corrected. I get back to my house, go to place a call, and find the phone isn't even connected to my plan. I bring it back and he programs it, which causes the power cycle issue yet again. Then he explained that I would have to downgrade to the original EnV and purchase the phone back full price, no refund.

Unbelievable.

I brought the manager out, who said the same thing. I explained that this was a verizon problem that verizon needed to fix and that someone was going to give me a working EnV Touch or I would be going to AT&T across the street and purchasing a new fully working iphone 3G S. They ended up giving me a "new" (refurb) EnV Touch back, in which the hinge on the phone is already worn causing the pieces of the phone to slightly rock back and forth. Needless to say I was pissed. Somehow the update on this phone worked and I left the store to go on with my day.

End result? A second hand rickety handset that works well, but could have been avoided, and one pissed off verizon customer.

As for the phone itself? Solid handset if you get a model without this bug. The touchscreen interface is excellent, keyboard is perfectly laid out, no freezing or random shut offs. Battery life could be better (part of the problem is the phone says charging is complete when it is not) and the T9 on the front side of the phone when in the upright position does not learn words programmed into it. If verizon took the time to explore the handset and work through the bugs before its release, it would get a perfect score in my book. Only downside is they still use a LG proprietary browser rather then running opera mobile.

I actually had a nice experience with Apple Support, I guess they have a lot of practice because iTunes is a POS. It was still an annoying experience but I guess I can't really blame Apple Support.

Complete story

Once I returned some speakers that I thought were broken to Newegg and got another set in return which I also thought was broken, but then I looked closer and realized I was doing something wrong and the speakers themselves were fine. :X Anyways Newegg is generally pretty good with returns.

So my options right now are, I think

  • Have my friend order for me (since my account is still suspended) and get everything shipped to his apartment, then pay him
  • Order from a variety of other e-tailers (Amazon, eWiz, ZipZoomFly, Dell) and collect parts from various places (since none of these places have all of the items I need in one place, or reasonable prices for all of the items)

#1 means I have to give Newegg my business (indirectly), and I am being influenced by my grr-ness towards them right now. #2 involves a few companies I haven't dealt with (eWiz, ZZF) and am not sure / confident about -- can someone testify (either positively or negatively) about experiences with them?

As the previous agent informed you, the verifications department said for security reasons. They wont give us any further information
Julie
That address has been determined undeliverable by Newegg.com's verifications department
Me
Does this apply to my entire college, or just that one building?
Me
I'm trying to figure out an alternative place to ship it
Julie
That would apply to any dorm address there.
Me
So I cannot ship anything from newegg to my college
Me
?
Julie
That would be correct.
Julie
We recommend you use a physical residential address.

This is a physical residential address, though
Me
it isn't a PO box

or anything like that

I'm sorry sir we can not service that address as I previously advised you.
Me
I know, I'm just trying to figure out some way to place an order, because as it stands it is impossible for me :(
Julie
I understand and we apologize for any inconvenience.
Julie
Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

I don't generally think of newegg as a big company but actually they're pulling in ~2 billion a year. I guess when you're that big you can ignore a few customers to be on the safe side. Really sucks, I'd be pissed, too. I seem to remember running into a similar situation back when I was in the AF (shipping to a dorm there). May or may not have been Newegg, though.

Maybe you could rent a box from a local UPS store or pakmail or something?

Update: now they refuse to unblock my account at all despite promising twice over two days that it would be unblocked within '2-3' hours.

Create a new account? Just make sure you don't use that address again. How far away is school from home?

Contact someone in charge, and inform them that if it's not resolved you'll be going to (insert a direct newegg competitor) who DOES ship to your address.

I think that's exactly what they want him to do. Apparently Newegg has had some serious troubles with shipping to that address in the past, and it's not worth his business to risk it again.

When people make you go through hoops in order to buy their crap, you need to find different people to buy from.

I already did order most of my parts from elsewhere. I just want my account to be unblocked because I don't want to have my email and CC associated w/ fraud for abso-****ing-lutely no reason. Plus all my order history, wish lists, etc are there that I spent a lot of time on and don't want to lose. I'm pretty pissed.

I forgot to mention that I left the services alone the second time I installed iTunes, it didn't help.

And "stripped XP VM" is supposed to imply that it is fast. Which it is. Unless you put iTunes on it. I saw no signs that anything was malfunctioning because of missing components, just general suckage is all.

And there's still a pending $900 charge on my card :carl: :carl: how long does it take for pending charges to clear if they aren't executed?

Nintendo put a bunch of pending charges on my card once, because it errored out of buying me Wii Points so I tried again, and it didn't tell me it was actually successful in adding "pending charges" but not in actually giving me points.

Nintendo Support told me to call the CC company which I did, but they wouldn't remove all the pending charges, just all but1. I guess I can see how duplicate pending charges are obviously wrong while a single one isn't (it could be a pending charge for something that you already received, and you're trying to gyp the company) but still... it's my credit card, and my charges, right? Fortunately the pending charge disappeared soon enough by itself without becoming a real charge, but still.

PS: It's important to note these WERE "pending charges" and not "real" charges and they appeared on a separate listing on the CC website's account info stuff. Not sure what it means by "pending" except obviously it isn't a "real" charge yet.

2009-07-11, 7:22 PM #24
For me pending charge means it's subtracted from my available credit limit but not added to my balance yet. Which is still annoying, because .. well, there's a $900 hole in my credit limit.
