I cried tonight (Baseball fans come inside)

I was bored and needing something to do this evening, so I got online and grabbed a couple tickets to see the Giants vs the Padres, at home in San Fran.

Moseyed over to the ballpark and as it it turns out, I got to witness Jonathan Sanchez of the Giants throw a no-hitter. For those who know what this means, cherish history! For those who don't know what this means, a no-hitter is when the starting pitcher for a baseball team pitches the entire game without needing to be replaced with another pitcher (due to fatigue or otherwise) and in doing so, did not allow a single opposing batter to get a hit. He also did not walk any batters or hit any batters. The only baserunner was by result of fielder error. This makes tonight one of the top 25 baseball pitching performances of the last 125 some odd years. It's extremely rare and a Giants pitcher has not thrown a no-hitter since 1976. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. :awesome:

Against the Padres, that isn't exactly a difficult feat. Padres have 0 hitting. None. We traded away an up-and-coming hitter for some no name pitchers. Our payroll is $25M and $10M of that is tied up in a player who is on the DL. We badly need a new owner. I think we're going to lose 100+ games this year. We're on a 5 game losing streak. Let's see if we can be swept by the Giants as well.

Fun facts: San Diego is one of the teams to never have a pitcher throw a no-hitter and to never have a batter hit for the cycle. Hitting for the cycle means a batter gets a 1B, 2B, 3B, and HR in one game.

I live 30 minutes from Washington D.C. and Baltimore. Baseball is not good to me right now. I'd prefer if you didn't talk about it.

Ouch. The Expos...err...the uh... "Nationals" (new city, same ol' franchise) are one of the worst teams I've seen play so far.

The padres suck too, but even teams with zero offense rarely get no-hit. It's incredibly hard to throw a no-hitter against any major league team, no matter how bad they are. He didn't walk anybody. Sanchez, essentially, threw a perfect game if it wasn't for one booted ball at third.

I bet that fielder feels like a heel.

I'm an Indians fan. This is not a good year for me. Tribe has lost 17 of the last 23 games. Looks like the season ends in september.

Chase Headley said it best. It was embarassing. I wouldn't have been that disappointed if it were like 0-2. It would have been a pitcher duel. But the Giants scored four runs in the BOTTOM 2ND!!!

Then there was that one time where I think it was the Mariners that piled up six runs BEFORE WE GOT TO BAT. Man I remember when the Padres had the best pitching in the whole of the MLB.

Eh, while the Nats are a disaster in basically every way the Orioles are pretty decent. General consensus is they'll be good in a couple years.

They've been saying this about the O's for a decade. A decade.

I like the movie In A League Of Their Own, which is about a women's baseball league during a time of war when men's baseball isn't played due to the military draft.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Even more impressive is that Sanchez had been pitching out of the bullpen for the last three weeks after losing his spot in the rotation because he was sucking horribly. Wouldn't even have been back in the rotation if Randy Johnson hadn't been hurt. He was one error away from a perfect game as well. It was something to see, even watching it on TV.

The last two years have had their merits. Last year we had a demi-god for a pitcher in the form of Cliff Lee, and the year before we went to the ALCS and got reemed by the Red Socks.
