I have been trying the hack found on this page:

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13717

with no luck.

For one, the order of the hex groups the OP gives are opposite, and the "60 03" group is actually "60 00", unless he gave the wrong row. I'm not sure. I did everything he said to do though, including editing the config file, and as soon as I load the mission I get "Error: The game could not load" with "ok" and thats it.

Any ideas or luck with this?

Have you tried checking the XWAUP forums? Should be several people there who know.

Widescreen Support

None.

This game offers no widescreen support. Members of the forum have researched options for adding widescreen support (registry keys, .ini, console, hack, etc.), and nothing has been found.

That's the same conclusion I found, JLee, after hours and hours upon searching for some kind of fix. I figured with all the editing support still around XWA someone was bound to find some sort of work around by now.

It looks to me like the resolution settings are hardcoded into the engine itself, what a dumb way to do it.

XWA editing is deader than JK editing...

Well I got it to work somewhat, but the text is all distorted. Also running into the issue I am having in my other post with my monitor. I am thinking about building another PC specificially for older games, its just insane trying to get some of them to run properly on newer equipment.

What? Post what you found please.

If the distorted text is due to the widescreen then I don't know how to help you, but the fonts in XWA are a fairly common problem. Just google XWA font fix...you need to download a new data file (fonts.res I think). I don't remember where I got mine.

edit the config file like in the first link.

I think a new game where you control original trilogy ships is LONG overdue. Even though I can't think of any new things they'd do, Xwing Alliance is amazing.

We don't NEED new things, although an interactive cruiser interior would be kinda neat. Walk around and get back-story and assorted flavor text.
