I arrived in china last night, and after spending the night in the airport hotel, I have arrived in my first preplanned lodging. Shanghai is an interesting city from what I have seen so far. I took some video on the maglev (though youtube is blocked here so I cant upload it yet, until i find some easy to usee proxy server).

well, that is all I have to say for now, I am going to go get some food as it is 9:00 am here, and I havent had a decent meal in ages (damn aeroplane food in economy is too small to be considered anything above snack).

I'm posting from China too! Unfortunately I've just noticed that I'm out of paper. :P

Also cool. Are you there for some sort of academic reason or just to explore etc?
nope.

I've actually never been to Shanghai except for a few hours for a flight connection. Are you gonna head anywhere else (like Beijing)?

China is also a girl's name.
I'm pretty sure China would be very fun to explore.

Ah, Shanghai. The one modern city in China. I was there for a few days the summer after my freshman year of college; spent about a month in the country in total.

Be sure to check out a Pizza Hut. The food's not really any different, but they're real, honest-to-God restaurants in Shanghai!
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

Shanghai is the fastest developing city in Asia. It is said that they are building so many things that the city becomes unrecognizable every 5 years.

For China and Shanghai, rampant development hasn't been all sunshine.

Just Shanghai? Thats how ALL of China is. I've been a couple times, all over the place, Shanghai, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangsu, Shanxi, Shandong, etc... they all look the same. Tons of new skyscrapers under construction. Half the city is covered in bamboo scaffolding.

If you get a chance, check out Qingdao. It's beautiful, on the beach, and best of all you can get good beer and pretzels thanks to the Germans occupying the area awhile back.

im here on a holiday, spending 3 days doing stuff on my own before a tour I am going on starts. The tour ends in beijing, so I will also get to see stuff there.

I have to say, the shanghai financial center is very impressive (the view from the 100th floor is great, albeit hazey), and today I went to the shanghai science and technology center and did a lot of walking around (I got a bit lost ; ; ), the A.P. xinyang markets were impressive. (saw some bootlegged stuff, but I bet that there is more legit stuff there than in sydney's infamous paddy's market).

dont have much planned for tommorow though.

You can try using tor to get around the filters. But make sure you aren't violating any laws first; some of those oppressive nations make encryption illegal :ninja:

Site might be blocked in China but I'm sure you can figure out a temporary solution to get your permanent solution.

How is the food there? Tried anything out of the ordinary yet? And have you gotten sick from anything there?
