DVD-R doesn't play on my DVD player

I converted an avi file to DVD format and burned it to a DVD-R using Toshiba Disc Creator. The disc won't play in my DVD player or Xbox 360, but it plays in my PS2. Is there any software that ensures maximum compatibility with DVD players?

If the drive doesn't read the disc, the drive doesn't read the disc. No software will fix that. Get a new DVD player and I'll take the 360 off of your hands.

(For those who think it's not DRM... 1) DVD drive invented 2) Someone invents DVD-R discs and designs them so all DVD players can read them 3) The DVD drive in the Xbox 360, despite fitting into the category of DVD players in #2, can't read DVD-Rs. Unintentional? Probably not. 4) Hardware DRM + PROFIT)
