help i need a new phone
2009-07-19, 11:23 PM #1
omgomgomg my phones dying I need a new one. I'm on Verizon and I'm not about to switch so no Iphone for me.

Anyways, I havent really decided what phone I like. I want something with SOME form of a qwerty keyboard, I dont care if its physical or not. I also don't need a smartphone. I havent completely ruled out a blackberry, but the data plans are expensive so I'm not really sure there either.

In reality a phone that has a qwerty keyboard and possibly 3g would be great.

You don't need a data plan on a BB. But get one with wifi if you skip data.

Yea, you don't need to get the data plan for the BB. Completely optional, but wtf is the point of getting one without it?

It doesn't have the qwerty... but I got a gzone a year ago. Best phone I ever owned.
Not only does it have long battery life, the thing is rugged as hell. Works better underwater, if you ever desire to talk to someone with the phone in a cup of water.

Haha yeah true. I'm pretty sure I wont get a blackberry though. I dont email enough to justify one and I'm on my computer all day so I can just check email there!

Right now im leaning towards the LG Env2 and the LG Versa.

Get the EnV Touch. Especially if your leaning towards the EnV2 and Versa, its everything those phones are and some more.

Its a solid phone, responsive touchscreen, no OS lag, browser is.. well better then any other non-smartphone verizon offers, and the call quality is great.

Did you see the iPhone SDK where it's not much better and notably not free? Most people complain about the SDK because they don't realize that a good number of functions are simply limited until the App Catalog goes full-time (most of the better functions that could be damaging are locked down atm, but it's going to change in the next few weeks, including low-level access).

I like how you act like you've seen it even though you obviously haven't (not willing to pay 100 dollars for it).

I like the iPhone because it's got a ton of awesome apps, a slick interface, and last but not least WORMS

iPhone SDK isn't free? That's news to me. $99 is only for the right to distribute apps and register devices for debugging.

One doesn't need to have said SDK to read numerous accounts of Apple totally screwing with developers. It even happens on OS X!

so, i'm also deciding what i want to do with my phone plan now that its up in september, i'm looking at switching from verizon since they've been annoying me lately and switching to Sprint, namely getting the Exclaim to replace mine with.

"I've read about apple screwing over developers which must means the SDK is limiting and sucks."

Good logic; or maybe developers ***** no matter what the circumstances because nothing is ever as open as they want it to be and is always too limiting for one reason or another.

Darth: I'm pretty sure you have to pay 100 dollars just to get the sdk--it's why apple frowns upon developers talking about it.

Nope, you don't, it's free. I know, I had it before getting a paid developer account. You just have to have a registered Apple developer account (free) in order to download it. Paying for it opens up the ability to use iPhones/iPod Touches as debug devices (free version limits you to the simulator built into the SDK, which works fine for most basic stuff, but some of the more advanced apis don't work with it) and submit apps to the app store.

Now the BETA SDKs are only given to paid developers, but release SDKs are available to everyone.
