Has anyone played this game? Is it any good? I got a free copy of it with my GTX 260 but I wasn't/am not really into 'gaming' so I've never heard of it before (I thought it was related to Crysis or something but I guess not) ... I'm downloading it now.

I read about it on Wiki and the memory mechanism thing(?) sounds cool.

I play TF2 and occasionally L4D el oh el

It was part of my new build and I didn't gimp on it because every single computer prior to this I was like 'I don't really play games I won't need it' then I find like one game that I want to play but can't play

So this time I decided to at least get something that might be able to play a random game I'll be into like in the next couple years

Wow this game is like mostly unplayable haha

why is it so badly optimized

FC2 runs like twice as fast on Ultra High at 1920x1200 vs this on Med-Low on less than 1650x

I was following this game for a few months before it came out and I was really interested in the concept. then I tried the demo - it performs like arse. Keeps stuttering every couple of seconds making it unplayable. There's supposed to be a patch that fixes it, but I'd like to be sure before I buy it because it does sound like a really cool game. I got burned pretty bad with Dead Space - paid the hefty aussie retail price and it only ever loaded a couple of times. Now it just crashes on startup every time.

And of course EA's technical support is "there is no problem game works fine :downs:"

That's because the game does work fine.

It's your PC that doesn't :downswords:

Tell it to the scores of other people trying to get a solution on the EA forums. 'Solutions' range from unplugging joysticks to reinstalling Windows.

Do everyone a favour and stop posting.

This is why the console market is so much stronger.

Because of inept programmers and pushy developers making a product launch before it's been fully tested and is ready to go?

Or because people are inherently stupid (as seen with Xzero here).

If I recall, Cryostasis is made by Ukrainian developers. So I don't understand how EA comes into play.

You know what else came from Ukraine that was buggy? STALKER.

...but still fun.

Products from Russia and its neighbors tend to be ruggedly put together yet somehow works. Like cars, vodka and the AK-47.

Comments like that are what turns people off from PC gaming.
You're killing it.

Yea the game is seriously pretty unplayable on my machine. I would've been pissed if I had had to pay for it.

EA published Dead Space. Nothing to do with Cryostasis.

STALKER had mostly broken scripting, the engine itself and gameplay worked pretty well. Cryostasis feels like its engine is completely unoptimised. At 1280x768 I was getting around 20-25fps with lots of stuttering. On a GTX280. Crysis runs smoother at the same resolution, and to be perfectly honest Cryostasis' visual fidelity resembles games that were released four or five years ago.

Stalkers engine is rock solid, I can testify after stringing together a series of mods and having it never fail without telling me why, I was able to work through it and in the end it's far more stable then even vanilla.
