Weird IE problem
2003-12-29, 3:55 PM #1
It's getting slightly annoying now. Every single time I press the Return or Enter key, the IE window becomes Inactive or Deselects itself, which ever term you prefer. I've run Spybot twice, I have all the updates, it found nothing. Any clue as to what is going on?

Does that happen with any other programs?

Sounds like another program is capturing the keypress and is becoming active... Check your running proccess and look for anything unusual.

It happens with nothing else.

I haven't the time nor want to download another browser.

I'm pretty sure it isn't the keyboard and this has been going on since yesterday, so reboots and shutdown/bootup hasn't fixed it.

... Like what? Sorry, but I can normally only recognize about 13 of the 38 some processes running. The rest look quite alien. Why can't people give processes COHERENT names?

that should be a whole new thread, GBK. and people who have lame processes, you take their list and put 'PWNED' on it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

that'd be great.

You could also systematically close the ones you don't know what they are, and each time you do open IE and hit Enter or whatever the key you're having problems with it.

Once you find it, check your startup folder and what not for strange files.

Come now, surely someone can give me some hint better than going through system processes one by one.

mm what's wrong with recommending other browsers? anyway.

back to the topic of system processes, if you are on window 2k or xp i belive they won't let you kill an vital system process, anyway most of the wierd ones you don't want to kill just look for some that have some sort of name that makes sense such as for example.

IXPLORE>EXE
soundman.exe

etc....

I recommend that you get firebird. It's a much better browser, like what explorer should have been. Firebird even has a built-in popup ad killer.

Internet explorer is like swiss cheese in terms of security holes and is extremely susceptable to browser hijacking (which is what forced me to switch) and other spyware.
