How does one go about learning to sing?

I can barely hold a note at the moment, and want to eventually get to a stage where I can sing in tune with my guitar without violating eardrums!

Definatly do not have the cash for a voice coach/singing lessons!

Get lessons from this guy.
Lyrics are highly overrated.

1) Go there.
2) Click the little Rs and sing along to each pitch.
3) Match the pitches. Don't worry about quality, just get the right pitches.
4) Repeat until you're good at being able to match whatever pitch you hear with the one you sing
5) Now do the same with songs
6) ???
7) Profit
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

You can get private voice lessons. This is probably your best bet, as far as I am aware. Otherwise, just sing as often as you can, and LISTEN to yourself sing!

Start with your guitar in-tune. Play scales on your guitar and try to sing along with it. Don't sing through your nose, the powa' is in da belli. And don't slouch.

Go.

start with practicing your breathing. do some vocal exercises to strengthen your vocal chords. thats what we did in choir every day before we started.

Just do it. As loud as you can and still be in control. The car is a good place for this. Keep doing it until your singing sounds good and fits in with the song. This is expert advice, by the way (I am an expert car singer)
