Anyhow.
I don't really know if there's a decline in the quality of Massassi or if it's just some kind of a misconception brought up by the lack of old members being around. I notoriously piss-arsed about Massassi becoming a den of hypocrites in 2005 when comparing the community of the time to the community of 2003, and now looking back at 2005 I was probably trying to create a new purpose for the community out of my arse. Or not, I don't really remember.
I do remember people being annoying and mean even back then, even though most of those members aren't around anymore. Of course, back then those pricks had names like Majin_Scott and MechWarrior and it doesn't take much to figure out who are the successors of those people today. The long-standing debate monkeys (as in those that were and still are here, repeating the same threads from the dawn of Mattias Welander's meatballs) might have been somewhat more blunt and below-the-belt with their messages than today but then again, back then you just mentioned "religion" or "gay" and got a 5-page-debate overnight with like dozens of admins banning and unbanning them back and forth in the matter of few hours (okay, days). Sort of odd for someone to make a thread like this, but not at all surprising for certain people to go all "DON'T YOU OPPRESS MY RIGHTS, HITLER!".
And of course there was me and my dead horse shtick that wasn't really supposed to become a fad. Even though I still think that- - - oh well, past is past. Sorry about that.
Allity-all, influenced by SomethingAwful and Fark or not (come on, what Internet site other than SA or Fark isn't), I still think that Massassi had an unique "forum flavor" that actually made me come back here over and over again. Don't know if it was the restriction on swearing that actually made people invent some vaguely witty non-profane ways to insult each other or if the presence of people like Darko, Sine_Nomen and Jeff Walters just kept the place from drowning. And I do think blujay's sporadic bans might have kept a lot of the ReTards out of here for some time, at least.
