Well, I finally got my new computer... unfortunately, the X800 XT that I ordered doesn't come out until September 20 (so the guy who put it together threw in a GeForce 2 until it comes in).
But, MY GOD this computer is beautiful. And it's not just the amazingly huge 19" LCD or the clear window in the side of the case (with a purple light that lights up the quite impressive interior). Nope, it's what's on the inside that counts: the Athlon 64 3400+ processor is blindingly fast; coupled with the 1.5 Gigs of RAM it is more than a match for anything I could throw at it. The 200 gig HD is comfortably large (I already copied nearly 10 gigs of music, photos, and videos onto it). The drive layout is quite good for copying DVDs (nothing illegal, of course...), with a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive on the top and a dual layer DVD-RW drive on the bottom (8x! It's fast!). The motherboard on this thing (an Asus K8V-something if I remember correctly) is awesome: 6 USB 2.0 ports (with 4 extras that I can install if I want), 3 FireWire ports, built-in Ethernet, built-in 6-channel sound card... the list goes on. Speaking of the 6-channel sound, I got a set of Altec Lansing speakers, which put out extremely good sound. The sub is pretty powerful as well. Did I mention that the computer has FIVE fans in it? (two on the PS, one on the processor, one in the back of the case, and on on the front) It'll go up to six fans once I install the X800... my old computer only has 2. Have I talked about the monitor yet? Yes, at 19" viewable, this thing is MASSIVE. It's almost as heavy as my old 19" CRT! But its a great monitor; contrast ratio of 600:1, response time of 16 ms... and it's big (yes, I know I mentioned this before, but I must make the point). It's big enough that both it and the CPU won't fit on my desk together. I haven't even installed the combo printer/scanner yet (although it's not quite as exciting as the rest of the system). I'm still trying to figure out what to do with all the USB and FireWire ports... I don't even have any devices that use firewire.
Well, I believe that I have finished bragging. I'll post pics tomorrow or something. Now bow down and worship my superior system![http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]](http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif)
