Well, I finally got my new computer... unfortunately, the X800 XT that I ordered doesn't come out until September 20 (so the guy who put it together threw in a GeForce 2 until it comes in).

But, MY GOD this computer is beautiful. And it's not just the amazingly huge 19" LCD or the clear window in the side of the case (with a purple light that lights up the quite impressive interior). Nope, it's what's on the inside that counts: the Athlon 64 3400+ processor is blindingly fast; coupled with the 1.5 Gigs of RAM it is more than a match for anything I could throw at it. The 200 gig HD is comfortably large (I already copied nearly 10 gigs of music, photos, and videos onto it). The drive layout is quite good for copying DVDs (nothing illegal, of course...), with a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive on the top and a dual layer DVD-RW drive on the bottom (8x! It's fast!). The motherboard on this thing (an Asus K8V-something if I remember correctly) is awesome: 6 USB 2.0 ports (with 4 extras that I can install if I want), 3 FireWire ports, built-in Ethernet, built-in 6-channel sound card... the list goes on. Speaking of the 6-channel sound, I got a set of Altec Lansing speakers, which put out extremely good sound. The sub is pretty powerful as well. Did I mention that the computer has FIVE fans in it? (two on the PS, one on the processor, one in the back of the case, and on on the front) It'll go up to six fans once I install the X800... my old computer only has 2. Have I talked about the monitor yet? Yes, at 19" viewable, this thing is MASSIVE. It's almost as heavy as my old 19" CRT! But its a great monitor; contrast ratio of 600:1, response time of 16 ms... and it's big (yes, I know I mentioned this before, but I must make the point). It's big enough that both it and the CPU won't fit on my desk together. I haven't even installed the combo printer/scanner yet (although it's not quite as exciting as the rest of the system). I'm still trying to figure out what to do with all the USB and FireWire ports... I don't even have any devices that use firewire.

Well, I believe that I have finished bragging. I'll post pics tomorrow or something. Now bow down and worship my superior system [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

I hate you. So much.

Nice rig! You know you could upgrade to a 3700+. That's out now. I mean just for over-over-over kill. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] You probably have the best system of any one on the forum.

just think of it-- in a few years, all that will be obsolete and be what a pentium 3 is today. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Sounds b1tchin for the present, though. What happens to the geforce when you get your new card?

Page: it goes back to the guy who built the system. He just loaned me the card so I would have something for now.

What display are you using? Links would be nice. I'm on the lookout for a replacement for my 10 year old 21" CRT. Right now, I'm leaning heavily towards getting another CRT. Mainly for two reasons, one a little more important than the other. CRTs from what I've heard, display color a bit better than LCDs, and I like having my center channel for my 5.1 setup sitting ontop of the monitor. I haven't completely decided against an LCD yet though. Your 19" sounds attractive.

Certainly not a bad system, especially for 20 Cents [USD].

They cancelled the X800 XT line for now. It's impossible to find, unless you've got maaaaaaaad connections. I'm talking like know people in the company.

So I just went the the 6800 GT. Solid card, pure sweetness. Got a few games, a couple I know are good, one or two with promise.

Haha, ok, I worked assembling computers for a while at a little computer store, and I still wouldn't assemble my computer myself, it's not worth getting blamed for ruining something that was bad to begin with and losing a $300 piece of hardware for no reason other than I was too cheap to afford $20 for some guy to put the computer together for me.
