Things that make you feel old...
2009-08-12, 8:25 AM #1
So I was watching Back to the Future and I realized something that made me feel super old.
At the end of the movie, when Doc decides to go 30 into the future, and then he comes back dressed all goofy, the thought occurred to me, "I don't think we're gonna be dressing like that in 6 years." And then I realized that was only 6 years away. :o

So much for having flying cars and making plutonium out of trash and stuff..
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

lol yeah, remember when they did the dates from low to high, so you'd hit the 1 on your keyboard and it'd go to 1900?

As I get older, I find that you're constantly reminded of how old you are. People don't even have to say anything to you. You watch an old TV show and remember when you were young and that was the top tv show to watch (i.e Chipmunks, TMNT, Smurfs, etc). Although, I'm 26 (which thankfully is still fairly young IMO) and I still get carded at the liquor store's and bar's so I'll take what I can get.

How about when you sign up for a website/forum, and you get to the "Enter your Birth Date" part. It's depressing when you have to scroll further down the list each year to get to 1983 (or your respective birth year). I remember when I only had to click down a couple times and I was @ my date, now it seems I have to scroll forever.

<-- I would be extremely jealous of the people that were born 1990 onward, except for the fact that they missed out on experiencing the most awesome time of all. [http://www.lansingcitypulse.com/lansing/imgs/events/event1666widea.jpg]

One of my co-workers was born in the 90's. That still just seems so weird to me.

Well, a lot of things make me feel old but it's still a false feeling since I'm quite young.

I'm fairly certain my mind is somewhat locked into a phantom zone in like 1999 because I automatically think the year 1990 was like 9-10 years ago but it's closer to 20 now.

And I still remember being disappointed at finding out kyle90 was not born in the year 1990 in like 2002 when I was like "Whoa, kyle90 is the smartest 12-year-old I know!"

Hah! That exact same thing happened to me about a week ago. I watched the whole trilogy again.

A buddy and I were talking about Shasta cola today, remembering when we could get a can for a quarter, and then we remember our grandpas talking about buying stuff for a nickel. So already, we are saying "Remember when"... Sad.

I'm rather surprised, honestly. I did not think I came off as older than I am. Really, I often cringe and feel embarassed by some of the random/immature/nonsensical jokes I make on here. :P

Working with kids always does that to me; especially when you first started seeing them when they were just babies or very very young, then in the present day you realize they are taking behind the wheel...

The fact that I have high blood pressure leading to erectile dysfunction but I can't take Levitra because I'm on nitrates for chest pains, and mixing the two could lead to an unsafe drop in blood pressure.

My best friends little brother is going to be in high school in a couple years... makes me feel very old.
2009-08-12, 2:49 PM #25
The fact that I was looking for something in the basement, and I came across a boxload of my old 5.25 inch floppies. ****.

And every kid now adays having a cell phone. I remember when those were rare to see for even adults to have.

As with Kyle, younger people getting married. Or maybe that one makes me more sad than feeling old. :(
I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

3 of my 6 cousins have children.

And 1 of them is younger than me.
nope.
2009-08-12, 3:23 PM #27
Someone asked me a question about my kids once ... I was like "NO!"
(Even though all my friends who have kids popped them out before graduating High School, but still...)

I don't really feel old, but I miss being young. I had so much more fun prior to turning 18.

Being out of Uni.

A lot of people I now are staying on for fourth years (or repeating a year for whatever reason) and it makes me feel just a little older than I actually am.

Despite being the youngest out of virtually everyone I know.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

bah. I'm starting to think this thread was a bad idea. :o

Another thing: When I was in Dubai a few weeks ago, a few sailors and I were hanging out with these two european girls. Then one of them told us she was 31. *shudder* My first thought was "Dang that's old." My 2nd was "That's only a few years older than me." :(

I feel old when I visit a website that asks for my birthdate, and uses dropdown menu's to pick the year. It's usually not immediately visible and I have to scroll down. :(
