Hey folks, does anyone know if I can still download game updates, DLC and games like Shadow Complex if I do not have Xbox Live Gold service anymore?

I tried looking it up on xbox's website, but their explainations are beyond vague.

Yes you can.

(Although, apparently, some content is available 1 week after it is to Gold members. I don't know if this is the case for Shadow Complex)

Only thing you can't do is play online of course.

Yeah, I think you can. You only need Gold to play games online. I know you can download demos, I presume you can get DLCs too. Sometimes Gold members get stuff sooner though.

I'm hoping to get my hands on this baby asap. It looks brilliant and I always adored Metroid/Castlevania-type platformers.

Now I just have to muster the courage to pull out my 46" tv, unplug the xbox360 from it, take the console and all cables out of the cabinet, then plug it all and my crappy 21" tv in my office to download it. Then fix it all up again so I can play.

I recently moved and I've not passed the internet cable through to the xbox yet, and don't have a 30 feet long one on hand. XD

I decided not to pay for another year of Xbox Live Gold... I can't justify its price after awhile.

Yeah, I don't think it really warrants the whole of the monthly fee.
nope.

It's not like what I get with Gold account is subpar experience. Everything works so nicely. Sometimes it just feels like I'm paying for things that should have come standard ... without a Gold account in the first place. Time to time I glance over at PSN, thinking if it would maybe be different if I went with the PS3.

I guess it matters on taste.

Just now getting to download it. Internet and TV were both completely dead when I got home from work today, after barely working for the past couple of days. I guess Comcast finally got their **** together because they seem to be back to normal now finally.
