I think I need a new keyboard.

Mine is pretty tired. The right side of the space bar also doesn't work properly - often it'll miss a space (the right side also sags down a bit).

The keys are worn, but that's not really a big deal...mainly the spacebar thing annoys me.

So! What should I get?

Nope.

Something is wrong, though. Maybe I should try taking it apart.

Spacebars are always a pain in the *** to fix. They never want to seem to get put back in correctly once you remove them, and on every keyboard they seem to have a different clamp. That bar thing is horrible too and always gets in the way. Just play around with it until it fits the way it should, that's typically how I've fixed mine.

Taken in 2005 or so... of the keys that still were visible back then K, X and D have disappeared completely and about 45% remain of B.

Of course, all of the keys that have worn out were important in UED shortcuts. God I miss UED :(

Logitch G15.

Absolutely love mine, and the key feedback is excellent. They've already released the next model up, so you should be able to score one relatively cheap.

also -- backlit in orange. Some people like this, some don't. I didn't at first but I got used to it.

G11 or G15. Don't waste too much money on keyboard though. A keyboard is a keyboard...

Get a mechanical-key switch from Unicomp. They don't look modern but they rock and will last forever. I don't know about forever but I bought mine ~8 years ago and still no problems.

MS digital media pro keyboard, had it for 4 years.

I was gonna +1 for a mechanical keyboard. If you don't like the IBM spring-style switches that are in the Unicomps, consider something like the ABS Mechanical Keyboard -- I got one for my build and it is fantastic. Do note that mechanical keyboards in general are louuuud, though.

Here's an excellent article on mechanical keyboards and the different switch types (includes video): http://hothardware.com/cs/blogs/mrtg/archive/2009/03/09/mechanical-key-switch-keyboards-demystified.aspx

Here's a decent guide that I used when gauging what kind of feel I would like the best: http://www.overclock.net/computer-peripherals/491752-mechanical-keyboard-guide.html

Yeah, I stay up really late and my roommate across the hall doesn't, so I'm not sure a mechanical keyboard is a really good idea.

i fix my space bar all the time, its pretty easy really. the trick is to get the little bar thats holding up both sides in the right spot before you push it back in.

Microsoft comfort curve keyboard.

i like the slightly ergonomicness of it and its quiet.
