ok, so i recently bought a new computer and found out that in general you no longer get a physical copy of windows. i know i can make a copy but when i tried to using a regular cd it said i had to use a dvd. my question is can i just use a regular blank dvd? or is there some sort of mysterious computer data only dvd or something?

Any DVD-R your burner can burn is fine. Which for most drives is DVD-R or DVD+R.
