old system upgrade- what would you do?

Asus M2N / 6150 with an A64 x2 3600+ (might still be OC'd substantially..I forget), 4Gb DDR2, 7800GT PCI-E.

It's my little brother's system..he's waiting for the next STALKER, plays Fallout 3, etc, so something a bit quicker would be a big plus. Newegg only has a couple AM2 processors (naturally) - we could get the A64 x2 6000+ for 80 bucks, and maybe drop in a 4850.

Alternatively, we could save up and rebuild the motherboard/cpu/etc.

What say you, Massassi? We're working with a pretty limited budget.
woot!

Guess you sold that spare C2D system you had a little while ago.

How substantial is the overclock? I personally have had poor experiences pairing low end CPU's with 48xx's. I think those cards really need a powerful cpu to shine.

I guess I would try to find some x2 6000+ / 4850 benchmarks and see if thats the level of performace he wants for ~$140 upgrade.

That's what I'm doing, but it'd take him quite a while.

I think that might actually be a bit too modern to run JK well, Just go get a pentium 2 or 3 from a dump somewhere.
