Anarchists?
2004-08-28, 6:28 PM #1
I never really paid attention to them, but I know they protest. I assume people like them believe that political government, or any sort of hierarchy, and economical status is unnessesary for people's lives, and capitalism and authority are harmful to world? And people are able to co-operate and ecologically (good word?) work with each other in an anarchy?

I haven't studied much on what they believe but I have the basic idea. Do these "socialist" protesters believe that anarchy (in any form) would actually work? I know they aren't protesting the idea of "Do anything you want".

Anarchism:

Anarchism is a generic term describing various political philosophies and social movements that advocate the elimination of the state. These philosophies use anarchy to mean a society based on voluntary cooperation of free individuals. Philosophical anarchist thought does not intend to advocate chaos or anomie — it intends "anarchy" to refer to a manner of human relations that is intentionally established and maintained.

Oddly enough, yes. I've encountered people like this before.

Kirby, you're really starting to piss me off these days...

Generally, on a small scale, there's no reason that a non-governed society wouldn't work, just look at communes. If people genuinely want to live in a way that promotes trust and sharing, why the hell not? The only problem is that it could never ever be a global thing, because there are so many horrible people out there with absolutely no morals at all.

Most are, yes. They believe that capitalism is wrong because it creates a hierarchy.

There are so many different branches of socialism, anarchism just falls under one extremist branch of the socialist party. Not all socialist ideas support a violent overthrow of the government ala marxism (Ex: Democratic Socialism)

There is a difference between what people call themself and what they are.

Socialism is not anarchy. Anarchy is everyone for themself. Might makes right. Consumer beware. If you want something, you have to work harder. It doesn't matter if your equal or not, that's your problem. Socialism promotes equality through heavy governmental influence and regulation, mainly in economics.

Anarchy is not against capitalism. Anarchy is for laissez-faire capitalism which basically means anything goes.

Ideal Communism is organized anarchy.

Real-World Communism is the antithesis of anarchy.

Do not confuse what people are and what they say they are. Just because I call myself a bi-sexual French woman doesn't make it true.

I sometimes feel that the government should f*** off and leave everyone alone-- does that make me an anarchist?

I mean, I don't collect guns or have explosives stockpiled or anything like that.

*Cue emotional music

Seriously, that just sounds out of place. Like it belongs in some sort of drama or something. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif] As for a good example of anarchy, play sim city and don't build any police stations. Or hospitals. Or schools. Or roads.

Philosophically speaking, anarchy is essentially utopia, not Chaos, which many people happen to believe that they are the same.

I don't understand how anarchy can possibly be a branch of socialism. I mean, anarchy means no government whatsoever, and socialism is all about government controlling everything.

If anything it's more like libertarianism. or whatever.

It's our All-American product. We got the idea from the Germans. The French hate it. It goes for half in Canada. The English have a version, but it's not so hot. There's cheap knockoffs in India. The Japanese are devolping a sleeker, sexier model. Made in China.

IMHO Anarchy is the most liberal "form of government". The only problem is that it doesn't work. It is depressing that most good governments don't work and that we're stuck with slow diplomacy.
Even a dictatorship would work if it was a wise and kind dictator. but that's a big if.
