Blizzard's Writing Contest

As some of you may know, the guys over at Blizzard held a writing contest in March, where the participants had to write a story in either Warcraft, Starcraft, or Diablo universes.

Unfortunately, I stumbled on the contest a couple of days after the deadline, so didn't have a chance to enter. Have any of you read the winning entries?

I admit I've tried reading the grand prize winner, and, to be honest, found it way too boring to warrant reading more than half a page (out of 29 pages total).

Any guesses on why that might be? I find it hard to believe that no-one with, em, a more professional skillset submitted something actually gripping. I don't mean to bash the winner - obviously, if she's been chosen over hundreds (potentially; I don't really know how many people submitted stuff for the contest), she's done something right, but still.

Opinions?

Didn't hear about it. I haven't read any of the stuff, or really been involved in any of those games, but my guess is that, giving the benefit of the doubt, the winning stories are aimed with the same audience that plays their games. In other words, someone not heavily involved in the games probably wouldn't find it as interesting. I could be completely wrong, though, and I do admit that better writers should be able to make a story interesting regardless, but that's my thought on the matter.
