I just re-purposed a closet in my house as a new desk space. It's been working pretty well so far. Still obviously messy, but I'm working on it okay!?

I got my desk for free but someone has written "Nickelback rocks!" on it so I think I'd be too embarrassed to post a picture of it.

I can properly display various resolutions...well, 1680x1050 and 1920x1080, anyway! :XD:

Whatever makes you feel better, dude.

:P

I used to have an NEC flat CRT - it was an amazing display...I really like the low-profile LCD stuff though.

I kinda wish my 19 inch NEC Multisync CRT hadn't died, that thing was beautiful.

Er...I think you need to read up on CRT technology. Perhaps take 4 years studying it.

Well, the average 17" CRT you find for free at the side of the road won't have as good quality as your brand new 120Hz full HD LED-backlit widescreen LCD, but you really can't beat a well-made, properly calibrated CRT for black levels, colour reproduction, etc. The only technology that could maybe beat CRT is OLED, so good on you if you have $2500 to blow on an 11" television.

rofl well done. that actually got a laugh out of me. I wasn't expecting it.

I think the reason I though CRT was crappy because I only remember using them on a really old computer with a really low resolution. Never used one to actually look at anything high quality. And they look crappy if you look close up at them, and LCDs don't.

Color reproduction on a CRT is superior, yes. But, it really depends on your definition of quality, as well as your specific use.

I had a 20" NEC trinitron display and it was absolutely beautiful. Cost almost 400 bucks then, too..

yeah because you totally don't see the space between the pixels when you look at an LCD up close  (yes i know the same thing happens on a CRT when viewed extremely close)

Well, from what I have used, LCDs looked better than the CRTs I've used.

There.
2009-09-29, 5:02 PM #32
A crappy CRT is going to look bad just like a crappy LCD would look bad. Just for different reasons.
2009-09-30, 6:12 AM #33
CRT technology can produce a higher fidelity image than LCDs can in almost every category, but it takes a good CRT that's well calibrated to bear that fact out.
