I think my computer needs and upgrade

I have a few questions. First, what is the best and cheapest CPU that is 1.6 Ghz, which is better (and what are the prices of): ATI Radeon 9200, or Geforece 4 Ti? Also, what is OpenGL?

btw, boomspeed can kiss my ***. They USED to be a free image hosting service. I WANT MY PICTURES BACK **** IT!

Why do you want a CPU which is exactly 1.6ghz? You will have a motherboard which supports either an AMD processor or an intel one, unless you want to upgrade your motherboard too (Which you might have to anyway, depending on what you have) you're best off getting the same brand as you already have.

I'd say a Radeon 9200 is better because it should (please correct me if i'm wrong) support Direct X 9.

OpenGL is a 3d rendering system like Direct 3d. If you're looking for a more technical answer, i'd try goodle [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

The lower end Radeons don't have DX9 features.

If I'm not mistaken, the GF4 TI series cards are a lot better. Since I know the 9200 performs close to the FX 5200, and a 5200 gets utterly stomped by a TI 4200.

With a budget of $150 or more I would defnately go with ATI, but you can't beat a Geforce 4 4200 64 MB for just $99.

AMD Athlon XP 1800 is 1.53 GHz, and it's served me well since last August. Very cheap nowadays, too.

I picked up a Sapphire Radeon 9200 Atlantis for £60 and that supports DX 9.0b fine.

They're DirectX 9 *compatible*, but don't utilize DirectX 9 features.

If I'm not mistaken, the 9600 is the lowest-end Radeon that has the newest DX9 features...

AMD processors will be cheaper than Pentiums.

Stay away from Celeron.

Why do you prefer them?

Yea, why Pentiums? They're 2x as expensive, and only faster in encoding and video editing stuff. And only by a nosehair at that. AMD beats them in everything else.

I am building a computer right now and on newegg Pentium 4s go up to 3.2 ghz, vs 2.2 for an Athalon 64...

Have you consulted benchmarks

Or are you just impressed by numbers and labels

A 2.2ghz Athlon XP is about as fast as a 3.2ghz Pentium IV.

The Athlon XP 2500 is a really good deal, since you can easily overclock it to 3200 speeds. Of course, they started to lock the Barton processors, so it's not as easy anymore, but it still can be done.
