How do you peel bananas?
2009-09-30, 12:59 PM #1
With current the situation in the world today, I believe this is a very actual question for today's youth.

Do you peel bananas from the top" or from the base (where you have that little thing sticking out that you can use to hit people in the eye with)?

I personally always peel them from the base, as if I were to do it from the top I always end up getting banana all over my fingers.

Hold it, are you calling the bit with the stalk the base, because I think of that as the top?
nope.

Yeah. That's the part it hangs off with, hence, the base. Though if seen on a banana tree, then yeah, I suppose it's technically the top.

this is how you open it (could only find one with this stupid *****)

But you get the idea. I always end up mooshing it, and this method works well. but sometimes the banana goes flying.

A banana is a hanging fruit. The stem is the top. :colbert:

so on an apple the bit with the stem is not the top? because if that's the top then by the same logic the end with the stem on a banana is the top

it's the part that is always shown as the top in drawings of bananas...
eat right, exercise, die anyway

And you can't argue with Andy Warhol.

Hah, didn't know you can open them that way. I just rip off the stem and peel away.

Koobie fails. I voted wrong. The "stem" part is most definitely the top.

I peel from the stem, whatever the hell that is called I guess

I peel it from the stem. What's so hard about that? It gives you a really handy lever with which you can instantly pull one side down. It seems like it has been intelligently designed for human consumption!

Either that or the easiest bananas to eat were the ones monkeys ate and pooped seeds all over.
2009-10-01, 4:41 AM #26
I peel from the bottom. It's how apes and monkeys do it. Why would you argue with them? They're like professional banana eaters!

Looks like a few people at least have gotten interpreted the choices differently, the poll has been rendered useless (unlike before where it was extremely useful...)

Bananas as we know them are seedless and dependent on us for reproduction.

To answer the poll's question, I aspire to open them like monkeys do, but I'm too much in the habit of opening them the other way.

I'd like to start a discussion of ripeness preference, but I have a feeling that might be misinterpreted.

The guy in that video TimeWolf posted is an idiot. He can't open a banana by the stem. He's digging his finger in. He's biting it. Did it never occur to him to bend the stem back? It's a ****ing PULL TAB for christ's sake.
2009-10-01, 2:19 PM #35
the part with the stemmy thing that you pull
2009-10-01, 3:46 PM #36
No one else does it the way I do? hold on to the stem and flick the whole banana instead of trying to peal it??

Since I am one of the retards that can't open it from the stem, I discovered this method since I would have never bothered to try to open it from the other end.
2009-10-01, 3:59 PM #37
How on earth could you not be able to peel it from the stem? It takes no effort or thought whatsoever!

I always ended up smooshing the banana fruit trying to do it.
Maybe I just do not eat ripe bananas...

I do the flick thing
