This is so cool. They split up Star Wars into a bunch of 15 second chunks and anyone can sign up to remake that chunk. Once they are all done, they will be stitched back together. The trailer is so funny I can't stand it.

I've been wanting to do this with LEGOs for years, but don't have a stop-motion camera :\

Um, what? Isn't stop motion just a series of still shots...?
2009-10-06, 4:19 PM #8
Yes, but until recently I didn't even have a decent digital camera to attempt it with.

A stop motion camera stops time while it takes the picture.

You can use a regular camera to do Stop Motion. You just need to sequence the images later :P

Also, this is awesome and I want the full movie now!

Han better shoot first.

We should claim that scene. We can take still photos of massassians, and edit them together to make the shot, South Park style (e.g. Saddam Hussein).

Nah, someone already took that scene.

we should go for the tk421 scene... but in our version TK421 is playing pong with obi-wan when the guy goes "TK421 why aren't you at your post"

So, if you remake a classic scene... it will get put into a collage of remade scenes or something?
Nothing to see here, move along.

no... they are going to just put them all in a big list of randomly sorted links

Hello! You and 472 other people have the chance to recreate Star Wars: A New Hope. Below is the entire movie split up into 15 second clips. Click on one of the scenes to claim it, film it, and upload it. You can have up to three scenes! When we're all done, we'll stitch it all together and watch the magic happen.

I still don't like the idea...

Maybe instead there should be a serious attempt at remaking it. Sort of like how people record their own phantom of the opera versions that their school makes.

If you don't like the idea (for whatever reason) that's fine, but you can't propose, as an alternative, a "serious attempt at remaking it"... this is a fun, comedic community project, it's on a completely different plane of existence than what you're suggesting.

I'm not proposing it, I just wish that some one else would do it.
It's not that I don't like this idea, it's just that it does feel a bit weird to see different actors in every scene for the same characters.

This looks hilarious.

I think they have all been claimed, I don't know which scenes I can make a clip for. Besides, I'm not sure if you're supposed to make it funny, or the best you can. It seems like u should just reenact the dialogue making use of whatever u have at hand.

It looks really good, but it's a bit of a shame there's so many cartoon and stop-motion sections, the live-action shots hold more interest to me.

I wonder how they're allocating exact 15 second strips, you'd think they'd have to do it by actually handing out chunks of the original film, it'd be the only way you could ensure a vagabond collection of film-makers could even hope for continuity.

edit- they are doing it that way
2009-10-07, 6:20 AM #25
Yeah, this is old but great news. The clips were all allocated weeks and weeks ago. I for one can't wait!
2009-10-07, 7:21 AM #26
The story on slashdot at the time said there were still ~250 scenes left or something.
2009-10-07, 7:24 AM #27
Neat. I support the stop motion lego feature film.

Perhaps the news source I read that on meant all the good scenes.

I stand corrected :)
2009-10-07, 9:38 AM #29
I think That just meant there's a number of scenes that aren't completed yet, but all have been claimed. Of course, doesn't look like that can stop you from doing it anyway, there's multiple scenes that have been done more than once.

No, they specifically listed 3 numbers -- the number claimed, of those, the number completed, and then the number available to claim.
2009-10-07, 12:21 PM #31
Instead of claiming clips, people should just make as many clips as they want and then have the best ones voted up.

I am not a fan of up vote / down vote type sites -- they generally don't raise things that I really like, only a bunch of worthless crap that might be funny to a teenager (look at digg).

Plus, you get guys like happydud who pop up and say "Hey, vote for my friend's awesome video it ro><ors"

Then people vote, not based on content, but on relationships.
2009-10-07, 1:54 PM #34
If they limited themselves to a reasonable number of each scene, some sort of editor could choose the best.
Why do the heathens rage behind the firehouse?
2009-10-07, 1:59 PM #35
Maybe if you had an independent panel for each scene it would work. I think the reason why it rocks is because the scenes are so different.
