MotS - Can't kill Ysalamari!
2009-10-06, 11:29 PM #1
I'm trying to get one of the secrets in the Dromund Kaas swamps that requires you to kill a ysalamari before you can force jump up to the next ledge. However, no matter how fervently I swing at it I can't seem to damage/hit it. Now that I see this extreme... I did the saber in both MotS and JK has been a lot more 'inaccurate' and unreliable than I remember - for instance that 'practice block' in the first level of JK that you acquire the saber (level 4?) ... it was very difficult to strike the upper targets or extreme lower. I wonder if it has to do with the modern system? Everything else APPEARS to run fine. Fists aren't helping much either.

I wonder if you could stand far enough away from it and use force destruction

If I remember correctly there should be some explosive container nearby.

You can also chase them off with guns.

Guns don't work on Dromund Kaas

I don't even remember an obligatory puzzle like that :\

I thought it was impossible to kill the thing and you had to find some other way.
Sorry for the lousy German

No, there's no way the game logic could be affected at all. If you've played JO or JA, you probably just got used to the much more accurate lightsabers that they offer.

They fire sparks. Which scares off the things. ...

Did you even get that far?

What? Ysalamiri aren't supposed to be able to move...
2009-10-07, 12:26 PM #11
I remember them crawling around quite fast in non-Dromund Kaas levels if you shot at their direction.

Wow, I don't remember moving ysalamiri. I really ought to play MotS again.

hmm... not accurate to canon at all. :argh:

I need to replay JK/MotS with my Wiimote controls.

I tried replaying it and didn't really like it. Though, I didn't really like it the first time around either. I love the MP maps, though, they are so cool. My biggest problem with mots is that they screwed up the water.
2009-10-07, 1:13 PM #16
Eh? What was different about the water?

You don't stick to the surface anymore... I think.
2009-10-07, 1:38 PM #18
So you have to hold jump to stay up? I sort of remember that now... Been too long.

I don't recall sticking to the surface in JK either.
2009-10-07, 1:53 PM #20
You most definitely do. Jump in and, if you're on the surface, you stay there.

It's all screwy, like it's really easy to sink when you don't want to. Like the water is less dense or something. There was something messed up about the surface for sure.

If that's the one on the ledge, you can force jump up there, then squat and move toward him. You should push him off the ledge.

In HL2 You can almost walk on water.

This doesn't work, the destruction orb, or whatever you want to call it, disappears when it gets in the Ysalamari's radius.

Looks like it's time to open up the level in ZED and see what's programmed in there. I don't recall ever being able to kill the ysalamiri -- I thought it was just eye candy (and an annoing source of chirping).

Like I said, if it's the one on a high ledge it can be jumped too (force-jumped), and then push him off by crouching and moving. If he lives through the fall, it won't matter, you'll be out of the null-zone.

It's been years since I've played it, but I thought the point was that it prevented you from using your force powers so you had to use other means to beat the level
2009-10-08, 10:26 PM #29
I have never played MOTS.
